#8 of losing hope

I look over Alex's body for a long time inspecting the large gunshot wound in his head,

* * *

I start to poke at it, it feels fleashy and sticky flies buzz around me I swat them but they don't go away

I take out my phone and call a local tow service and hospital to help with the body,

then, get back into Todd's car and drive off.

I start my drive to Maine "where in the hell could they be!," I hollar,

two and one half hours later I make it to Maine

tired and wirey I stop and pull into an abandoned lot and drift off to sleep,

dreaming about Alex and, having hot,steamy sex.

In the morning I drive to get gas I pull into a filling station and hand the attendedent a twenty

"keep the change," I tell her, "well thanks!," she replies.

a few minutes later I pull out and continue on my way

the car back-fires "oh shit," I scream.

I pull over and open the hood smoke billows from the opening

in the engine compartment, I fan it away.

first I check the oil "god damn it!," I whine, I pop the trunk luckly there's a brand new container 

"there we go," I sigh.

After the oils topped off I slam the hood down and start the engine it sputters at first but, turns over 

I take out my phone and unlock it "Google, 1995 Ford Taurus SE specs," I say

"OK, so if this car's engine is a 3.0 liter v6 with an H.P. of 140 

and a theoretical top speed of 117 then, I should make it back to

California by... Friday? yeah."

I sence something, so instead of driving back to California I head south to Arazonia 

driving as fast as I can, I hit the Arizona state line at 3 in morning 

and drive onward I put the car in  neutral on the side of the road 

and again drift off... once I awaken I head further into the hot,dusty climate.
