He likes Velociraptors and I adore all dinosaurs, so this was a cool one to write. I wanted to be as scientifically accurate as I could be. I try to keep up with what the paleontologists discover, but that's not always an easy task. Written on 6/27/2016.\nSuggestion by a friend.\nWritten by me, Fane Star.","content":"Imagine a land of sand and dirt,  \nWith scattered trees and ferns.  \nSmall rivers and ponds litter the land  \nAnd feed the life that thrives here.  \nFrom the smallest of mammals to the largest of dinosaurs,  \nThe root of life is all around.  \nMany dinosaurs intermingle throughout the land.  \nPacks hunt herds, herds defend their young.  \nAll evolved to thrive here in the land of Gowanda.  \nNow we shall find a family of dinosaurs.  \nBetween a stream and a clump of trees,  \nThere rests a nest full of eggs.  \nOne begins to shiver and tremble,  \nAs the hatchling begins to emerge.  \nSharp, tiny claws poke through the shell.  \nAs she climbs out of her egg,  \nHer mother wakes from her mid-day slumber  \nTo watch her hatchlings emerge.  \nThis new mother is feathered at her arms and tail.  \nWith a back covered in dinofuzz.  \nSharp claws found on fingers and toes,  \nOne unusually long claw decorates each foot.  \nNumerous curved teeth are seen in the dino's mouth.  \nFrom hatchling to adult she will care for her young.  \nAfter one egg hatches, the other hatchlings are freed.  \nThey will gain the strength to roam the nest after their first meal.  \nThese hatchlings grow fast and are natural hunters.  \nWithin a few years our hatchling will leave her family behind.  \nShe's an adult identified by her unique scent and sounds.  \nShe will find her mate, a strong, healthy male.  \nHe wears beautiful feathers of bright colors that catch her eye.  \nHe's the perfect dinosaur, they will be mated for life.  \nTogether they hunt an adult Protoceratops,  \nAs the rest of the herd flees from their presence.  \nTogether they are an unstoppable force for these herbivores.  \nWithout their families around, our hunters are vulnerable  \nTo the much bigger Gorgosaurus who smells the fresh kill.  \nIf they stayed to fight the approaching beast,  \nTheir combined strength would fail causing them to perish.  \nThey leave their meal behind, saddened.  \nShe needs to keep her energy high.  \nShe will soon lay a clutch of her very own.  \nFor now they search for a new home,  \nWhere other carnivorous mothers gather.  \nAs night falls the pair settles for rest.  \nBefore dipping into restful slumber  \nThey groom each other to rid  \nEach other of parasites and dirt.  \nShe will expose her weak spots to him.  \nIt's the raw form of trust between these prehistoric animals.  \nThe pair finally drifts to sleep as the moon rises above Gowanda.  \nDreams full of fresh prey, safe nesting grounds, and cool water  \nFill her sleep with peace and happiness.  \nThe sounds of birds and the light of the sunrise  \nRips her out of her restful state.  \nHunger nips at the couple, they begin a new hunt.  \nHe catches the scent trail of a lone Protoceratops.  \nAn easy meal for these carnivores.  \nThey hunt and engorge on the fresh meat in peace.  \nAnother groom later and it's already midday.  \nShe can no longer travel, her nest will be built here and now.  \nLike her mother, she failed to reach the safety of numbers.  \nWithin a few days she lays her first clutch with her mate's protection  \nAnd the life cycle begins anew.  \nJust like her mother, she will nurture the eggs and the hatchlings.  \nJust like herself they will one day leave to find and make new families.  \nThis is the life and cycle of these feathered hunters.  \nThey thrive in this Cretaceous world.\n\n\u0026nbsp;Written by: Fane Star  \n\n  \n  \n\n"}
