So, a Shakespearean sonnet is a poem of fourteen lines that has a specific rhyme scheme: _abab cdcd efef gg._ Each line is also done in iambic pentameter, which means it has five iambs (a non-stressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable). A good example of iambic pentameter:\n\n“Rough **winds** do **shake** the **dar** ling **buds** \u0026nbsp;of **May.\"**\n\nAlternatively:\u0026nbsp;\n\n“Come **on** and **slam,** and **wel** come **to** the **jam.\"**\n\nYour first three quatrains (groups of four verses, here _abab,_ _cdcd,_ and _efef)_ ideally describe a problem, question, or circumstance, whereas your final couplet (two grouped lines, here _gg)_ is supposed to be a turning point for the poem, summarizing and responding to the first three quatrains.\n\nThis information is, of course, of little use, because the following poem is a free verse and thus follows no rules at all.\n\n* * *\n\n### Fleeting Passion in the Street\n\nBurn me\n\nTake from my body the cold and empty\n\nAnd fill me instead with heat and light\n\nBring passion to the void and let it consume.\n\nSink me\n\nWhat cinders remain, to the depths condemn\n\nLet no-one see the husk of what's left\n\nWhen there's nothing left to speak for me\n\nForget me\n\nLet my passing be a shadow, a whisper on the wind\n\nHere but for a moment and then passed from caring\n\nUnmarked from lives moved on.\n\n* * *\n\nAnd now, onto lewder things.\n\n* * *\n\n### The Rope\n\nTethered to you, bound /\n\nI've will but I cannot act /\n\nYou're my impetus.\n\n### The Knot\n\nThrusting, grunting, close /\n\nYou want me, and I want it /\n\nPressed up against me.\n\n### The Burn\n\nYour mouth is a match /\n\nMy slick body, your kindling /\n\nMy senses, ablaze.\n\n### The Release\n\nEvery part of me /\n\nTwitching, writhing, bringing us /\n\nBoth over the edge.\n\n* * *\n\n- Charles Michael Averin","series":{"name":"Old/Archive","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1104907-bitches-right-the-contact-contract.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1107099-the-everlasting-knot-an-ode-to-companionship.json"}}
