While there exists a formal structure to an ode (that being the Greek Ode), and while I'll inevitably write one, it's somewhat daunting. So, instead, let us celebrate the impossible denizens that exist without the cycle of life and death; those strange and queer beings that come from the empty, from the void, from that great dark beyond, who watch us with their thousand eyes.\n\n* * *\n\n### An Ode to Madness\n\nThe sky's a somber, screaming scourge—\n\nDrowned sailors sound their dying dirge—\n\nThe surging swell spills forth and fills\n\nMy maddened mind! My soul it chills!\n\nDown from the deep, I hear the hail—\n\nThat woeful, wasting, wistful wail—\n\nThat clarion! That calming call!\n\nAtop the cliff, I fear no fall!\n\nOne single step to meet the murk—\n\nAnd what weird thing below does lurk—\n\nWhich brought about this cursed craze!\n\nWhose visage set my mind ablaze!\n\nThat dreadful drop drags on and on,\n\nUntil the dreary dawn of dawn,\n\nWhen sunlight through my window creeps—\n\nStill—something in my slumber sleeps!\n\n* * *\n\nI'm quite sorry about that; I seem to have suffered a fainting spell of some sort, during which I had one of the most vivid dreams—if not the most striking—in my life. In any case, here are three tankas to sate your thirst for filth.\n\n* * *\n\n### Leather\n\nDarkened leather chaps /\n\nHarnessing innate appeal /\n\nFirmly fitted straps /\n\nMy exposure pleases you /\n\nWhile you remain in control.\n\n### Show\n\nThe crowd cheers you on /\n\nI'm a plaything to be used /\n\nFor their enjoyment /\n\nThey roar, electric, tense /\n\nIntoxicated by us.\n\n### High\n\nTogether we ride /\n\nRunning like watercolours /\n\nMelding with each thrust /\n\nWithout you, I'm blank canvas /\n\nBut with you, we're living art.\n\n* * *\n\n-Charles Michael Averin","series":{"name":"Old/Archive","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1121376-sexpectations-tourist.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1123754-degeneracy-desk-job.json"}}
