You can't have hir. So there.\n\n**Spin-off from BEYOND THE STARS**  \nChapter One: _A Man or a Mouse_\n\nDaniel sighed. It was a beautiful night. The stars were scattered across the sky like diamonds on blue-black velvet despite the light pollution from the nearby downtown district. It was a great night for a walk, even without the possibility of finding a meteorite.\n\nHe had to be honest, though, it was that possibility that had dragged him out to walk through the woods at night. He'd seen the meteor streak down through the sky, a large ball of fire breaking up as it soared over his apartment.\n\nHe grabbed his clipboard - may as well check on the status of his biology experiment on the way out. It was a simple enough experiment in cross-fertilization, which annoyed him. He'd done this sort of thing in high school. Things were supposed to be different now that he was in college.\n\nHe tried to contain his bitterness as he made his way out towards the lightly forested area where the meteor appeared to have gone down. It really was a lovely night.\n\nThe further he got into the woods, the quieter it got, which helped his mood. _What a beautiful night_, he thought, gazing up at the crystal-clear sky. It was uncannily clear. Unnaturally so. The stars literally twinkled - tiny cross-shapes that flickered in the atmosphere.\n\nThat was odd - not right at all. Stars don't actually twinkle: planets do. Yet here they were, doing exactly that. The sky was darker than normal, too - actually pitch black.\n\nThe moon looked off, too. He swore he could see the outlines of the craters picked out in a much darker grey than the moon itself. The man in the moon, normally a vague impression of shadows, was crystal clear, and seemed to be grinning at him.\n\nSleep deprivation, he decided. He was hallucinating. He thumped himself lightly on the side of the head, trying to clear it. He was so focused on the bizarre appearance of the sky that he failed to notice that the area around him was similarly affected, and had been for some time.\n\nHe failed to notice a few other things as well: the large pool of opaque liquid at the center of the impact crater he'd been looking for. The impact crater itself. The amazonian human/lion hybrid in a lab coat slipping silently away from the site. Mostly, however, he missed the large rock directly in his path.\n\nWhen he tripped over it, he got a glimpse of the crater, the lioness, and the pool for just a split second before he fell, headfirst, into the fluid.\n\nAt first, he panicked, flailing around. He let out a startled yell, the sound forming a bubble before his eyes and floating to the surface. He could swear, just after it broke the surface and burst, he could hear his yell coming from above him.\n\nHe continued to thrash around, trailing bubbles from his fingers, before being distracted by the appearance of those fingers themselves.\n\nThey were perfect: no minor flaws or imperfections, simply pink fingers with slightly squarish tips. Perfect. He gasped, felt the fluid rushing into his throat, and resumed his panicking.\n\nIt took him a moment to realize he wasn't drowning. After a few seconds to get his bearings, he climbed to the surface.\n\nOnce out of the pool, Daniel took a moment to get his bearings again. Everything looked fine. Better than fine, even. Things looked right for the first time in his life.\n\nSadly, _he_ still felt a little off. He looked at his T-shirt, which hugged his body like a second skin. It was perfect, everything extraneous to its nature stripped away. But it was wrong, somehow. He polished his glasses on it. They, too, had been... refined. Perfectly clear, round wireframes that shone dramatically with an audible \"FREEM\" when the light struck them. They were larger than they had been, which was right. So what was wrong with his shirt?\n\nThe pants were fine, much better than the faded, coarse denim they had been. Now they were clothes without being cloth, _per se_. They covered his legs and groin, hugging his hips and thighs before flaring out at his calves, and the pale pink seemed perfect, much better than the medium blue they had been.\n\nThere had been a small tear just below the waistband, over his spine. Now it was a perfectly round hole, about three inches across. The night air felt cool on his now-perfect skin.\n\nHe was breathing easier than he had his entire life - if what had gone before his fall into the pool of strange liquid could be called life. He felt almost at home in his body - his refined, almost perfected body.\n\nHe hopped over to where he had dropped his clipboard in the fall and scooped it up with a mischievous giggle. Suddenly, he had several ideas he wanted to put into motion immediately.\n\nAs he bent to scoop up the clipboard, his long serpentine tail popping out through the hole in his pants, he tripped, as was his nature, and hit the ground so hard he flattened himself out on it, his shoes and socks popping off of his feet with a sound like a cork coming out of a wine bottle.\n\nAfter taking a moment to experience being two-dimensional, Daniel pried himself up off the ground. He wobbled on his flattened-out feet for a moment, then with another audible pop, resumed his three dimensional form - albeit with some changes.\n\nThe most notable difference was the addition of a pair of perky breasts, C cups that bounced enticingly when he - now she? - moved. His... her... hips had widened, which set off the narrowed waist. Between shapely thighs, there was still a very noticable bulge, which emphasized hir new gender very clearly.\n\nNot that shi could see any of this. Although the glasses shi'd been wearing had originally been meant to correct a very mild nearsightedness, shi now couldn't make out a thing past the end of hir pink, mouse's nose.\n\nShi spent a few moments groping around for the now vital glasses, perched them delicately on hir muzzle - they would stay there with no problem, shi knew - and pulled a mirror out of her pocket.\n\nAfter setting up the full-length mirror on its stand in front of hir, shi looked hir reflection up and down. \"Hmm,\" shi said. \"I calculate an eighty percent compatibility rating with both males and females regardless of sexual orientation.\" Shi cocked a hip, grinning suggestively. \"Perhaps as high as eighty-three, but I can do better.\"\n\nShi ran hir hands down hir long, sinuous body, the smooth caress sculpting hir hourglass figure to even shapelier proportions. \"Better,\" shi acknowledged.\n\nShi took a very, very deep breath, hir chest inflating to the point it popped the top button off of hir blouse. As the button ricocheted from a few nearby trees, one after another, shi held hir breath until, with a loud BOING, hir breasts doubled in size, taking on the added volume of hir inhalation.\n\nShi let out hir breath, lips flapping, and admired hir new figure. \"Hmm,\" shi said. \"As I expected, the additional volume to my bustline, coupled with the additional change in physiognomy to my waist and hips, has resulted in a twelve percent increase in attractiveness.\"\n\nSatisfied with that, shi finally scooped up hir clipboard, which had already been perfected by its contact with the ground. The top page attached to the clipboard was covered in tiny doodles and formulae, far more complex than the simple notes the human male shi had been left on it.\n\nLeaving the mirror behind, the hermaphrodite mouse 'toon tucked the clipboard under one arm, adjusted hir cute round glasses, and happily skipped back towards hir apartment, enjoying the way hir now F-cup breasts bounced when shi did so.\n\nIt was a sign of how excited shi was that shi only tripped three times. While getting up from the second fall, hir augmented eyesight picked out details in a flower, and hir scientific mind had an even more brilliant idea that would make hir experiment in cross-fertilization worth writing home about. Shi could feel hirself getting aroused, the bulge in hir tight pink bell-bottoms getting absolutely enormous.\n\nPleasuring hirself, however, could wait. Shi had SCIENCE to do.\n\n**TO BE CONTINUED...**  \nYou know... eventually and stuff.\n\n  \n  \n\n"}
