While there is no chapter of _Death of the Actor_ this week, I figured this was owed.\n\nNarrative poems tend to have rhythm and structure, although the format of that structure is entirely up to the composer. In _The Swindle,_ for example, had a scheme of 11a/11b/11a/11b/13b repeated three times, a turn in the poem (or volta, to appropriate from the sonnet) of 13a/13a, and a conclusion of 11a/11a, both couplets.\u0026nbsp;\n\nThe composer can choose their structure and rhythm as they please: it's your poem! With _The Swindle,_ I chose 11 and 13 syllables because I wanted to play with uneven numbers. I chose ababb because I wanted quintains. Together, it encouraged me to make the last line of each quintain slightly longer, telling me how to distribute the numbers.\n\n* * *\n\n### Vanity\n\nServants sweetly Tomcat treated, torpid tongues his body greeted,\n\nSmoothly stroking his erection, yet he felt extreme dejection;\n\nIn the parlor softly seated, callous Cat stared forth, conceited,\n\nAt glinting glass, feeling cheated, in his twin no flaws repeated,\n\nEyeing coldly his complexion, pondering his imperfection;\n\nIn the parlor softly seated, callous Cat stared forth, conceited,\n\nWatching, wary, his reflection, weary, rapt, without affection;\n\nAdoration undefeated, senses soaring, uncompleted,\n\nEvery inch met close inspection, disallowing all protection,\n\nWatching, wary, his reflection, weary, rapt, without affection,\n\nEvery inch met close inspection, disallowing all protection,\n\nAdoration undefeated, senses soaring, uncompleted,\n\nWatching, wary, his reflection, weary, rapt, without affection,\n\nIn the parlor softly seated, callous Cat stared forth, conceited,\n\nEyeing coldly his complexion, pondering his imperfection;\n\nThat glinting glass, feeling cheated, in his twin no flaws repeated,\n\nIn the parlor softly seated, callous Cat stared forth, conceited,\n\nSmoothly stroking his erection, yet he felt extreme dejection;\n\nSiamese himself competed, mirror stained as he completed.\n\n* * *\n\nHave a lovely rest of the week, my dear readers.\n\n* * *\n\n### Large\n\nThe girth of your gut /\n\nI love you, not despite it; /\n\nI love you for it.\n\n### Difference\n\nThough I stand so small /\n\nCompared to your awesome size /\n\nYou hold me equal.\n\n### Pole\n\nClothing hits the ground /\n\nPowerful thighs suspend me /\n\nSpotlight centre stage.\n\n### Waiting\n\nBlinded and deafened /\n\nI lay, face down, quivering /\n\nAnticipating.\n\n* * *\n\n-Charles Michael Averin","series":{"name":"Old/Archive","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1123754-degeneracy-desk-job.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1126836-art-exhibition-gentrification.json"}}
