Kody was glad that the paperwork had included the home's address because he'd forgotten to send it to his uncle. To say the meeting was a little strange was the least of their problems. Tori and Alexis hounded the tod to no end, asking him question upon question, the two vixens more than just curious about him. It was both flattering and a little creepy at the same time. Luckily, Uncle Mike and Aunt Helen were able to calm them down a bit with the help of their newly discovered Aunt Jospehine.\n\nUnlike her son, Jo had thirty years of practice avoiding some of the touchier questions, giving them answers that would suffice just enough that they wouldn't pry more. Her son did have a lot to learn, especially when it came to single, curious vixens that were just a year or two younger than his new sweetie, a subject that inevitably arose.\n\n\"So, Kody,\" Tori had said as she'd gently stirred around the contents of her glass of merlot, \"You seeing anyone?\"\n\nThe way she asked it, the fox could have sworn that she was hitting on him, and he wasn't the only one. Luckily, Kody was able to counter quickly, \"I am. Her name's RJ. Are you?\"\n\nThe orange fox just shrugged her shoulders as she took another sip, \"Oh, off and on. How long have you and her been dating?\"\n\n\"Not long,\" he replied before taking a healthy swig of lite beer, \"We just started going steady.\"\n\nMike interjected before Alexis or Tori could get a word in. \"That's great, Kody. Is she another fox,\" the older tod was hoping that his answer would scare his daughters away. He was very surprised at the way the two were acting around him, and part of him wondered if they just assumed they were acting on all the rumors they'd heard about country folk and incest.\n\nKody shook his head, \"No. She's actually a raccoon.\"\n\nEveryone who wasn't his mother looked a little perplexed. Interspecies relationships weren't uncommon, but usually they stayed within their own Genus. Helen was the first to offer up a bewildered response of, \"That's... very... progressive?\"\n\nThe younger tod just chuckled softly to himself, though Jo gave her own little smirk as Tori and Alexis pouted, something that made Mike even more uncomfortable than he already was. He reached up to adjust his tie a little, \"Well, so long... so long as you two are happy, that's really all that matters.\"\n\n\"Oh, we are,\" Kody chuckled as he took another sip as the questions died down for a few brief seconds before Helen decided to keep the line of questioning to more simple items, \"Are you originally from Zootopia?\"\n\n\"Not exactly, Aunt Helen. I actually grew up over in Paludosi over in the Meadowlands District, but most people can't find that town on the map, so I usually just say Zootopia.\"\n\nThe vixen was still getting used to being called that. It still felt strange, but then again, Mike had told her that Jo was still going through a similar adjustment herself. \"Really,\" she asked, \"Where are you living now?\"\n\n\"I'm stationed out in Mammoth River, but I spend every weekend down in Bunnyburrow to rediscover my real roots.\"\n\nHelen smiled as she took a sip of wine, \"It must be strange learning about your new families.\" The tod nodded, \"It has been an experience, but so far, I like everyone I've met.\"\n\nMike smiled happily, \"Well, it has been interesting finding out that I have a nephew. I honestly never expected to meet you, Kody.\"\n\n\"It's been great getting to know ya'll,\" the fox said with a genuine smile, \"You really don't know how nice it is to finally be around other foxes. My adopted dad's family always gave me weird looks and hid the fine china when I came to visit.\"\n\nMike and Helen blinked, \"Really?\"\n\nKody shrugged his shoulders, \"Well, they all grew up in Dearborne. I heard my dad talk about when the first fox family moved in, a bunch of the kids decided to take a few shots at them with bb guns.\"\n\nThe room was completely silent. There were still a lot of mammals that distrusted or outright hated foxes, but Mike and Helen had always thought that it was more a country thing and not something that happened in Zootopia, especially not in the suburbs. Then again, if Mike remembered right, Johan would be in early eighties, meaning he would have lived in a very different time. Part of him wondered if him adopting a fox was some kind of penance for his actions back then, though it could have been his wife that wanted one. The truth would never be known though.\n\n\"Zootopia was very different back then,\" Helen said, though she easily remembered how the whole city had been ready to explode nearly two years before during the Night Howler Scare. Maybe things weren't as different as everyone believed it was.\n\nKody took another sip of his beer before setting it down on the table to look at his watch. It was nearly seven thirty. \"We should probably get going if we're going to make it to the Oasis,\" he said as he looked up at his Aunt, Uncle, and cousins. Mike looked down at his own watch and gasped, \"Yeah, if we want to get there on time, we'll have to leave now.\"\n\nAlexis and Tori gave everyone a pouty look, but they knew their grandsire didn't like to be kept waiting. \"You want to get together some time, Kody,\" Tori asked sweetly, her smile very warm and inviting.\n\n\"Sure. I'd love to,\" the tod replied, his tail flicking about behind him, \"It was great meeting the both of you, and I'd love to get to know you better.\"\n\nAlexis grinned back, \"We'd love to get to know you better too, Kody.\"\n\nThe fox smiled, though he still wasn't sure if he was being hit on or not.\n\n  \n  \n\n","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1153203-the-rowans-and-the-greys-chapter-15-rj-and-kody.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1153209-the-rowans-and-the-greys-chapter-17-ruby-rowan.json"}
