{"sf1_id":1227701,"sf2_id":"5nzJr95n","title":"Being Transgender","author":"makyo","words":426,"posted_at":"2017-08-16T18:22:00.000Z","tags":["Poetry","Transgender"],"url":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1227701-being-transgender","original_url":"https://sofurry.com/s/5nzJr95n","image_url":"https://cdn.sofurryfiles.com/submissions/thumbnails/16/e9/16e9b1c2-afe6-4c73-a31d-c50438991711","description":"#8 of Poetry\n\nOlder drivel.","content":"You get to explain gender to all of your friends --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And all of your family --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And maybe once more to be sure --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And random strangers --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And maybe, like, doctors and nurses who should probably know better;  \n  \nYou get to explain to your partner that nothing has changed --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And that you were always this way --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And that really, honestly, nothing has changed --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And that this has no effect on your love for them --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And I promise;  \n  \nYou will get to come out again --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And explain that it wasn't that being gay wasn't enough --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And explain that it has nothing to do with who you like --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And explain that that shouldn't matter --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And -- oh right, this means you might be straight after all;  \n  \nYou get to go through that awkward period of growing your hair out --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And learning how to ask for a more feminine haircut --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And trying a curling iron for the first time --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And figuring out how to eat noodles without also eating your hair --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And the worries that you're just trying to be rebellious;  \n  \n\n\u0026nbsp; You get to worry whether you're maybe just trying to be rebellious --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And whether or not you might just be faking it --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And whether you're really Trans Enough or not --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And whether you're maybe just appropriating femininity --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And whether or not passing really matters to you anyway;  \n  \nYou get to dress up in your best clothes --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And your best makeup --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And worry that your shoes are too masculine --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And have your hair game on point --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And convince the doc that you deserve those patches and pills;  \n  \nYou get to go through puberty again --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And it will be weirder this time around --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And your skin will grow soft --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And you'll get more sensitive to temperature changes --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And -- YEOWCH! That's a new sensation;  \n  \nYou will cry a lot --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And bite your tongue often --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And lower your gaze --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And learn to take up less space --  \n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; And talk softer;  \n  \nAnd your dogs will still love you.  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poetry","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1227700-meaning-self.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1227705-the-dogs-assure-me.json"}}
