{"sf1_id":122893,"sf2_id":"YnLyW3B1","title":"When we first met","author":"That One Saint","words":323,"posted_at":"2010-01-29T18:46:00.000Z","tags":["Depression","Friendship","Poem","free verse"],"url":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/122893-when-we-first-met","original_url":"https://sofurry.com/s/YnLyW3B1","image_url":"https://cdn.sofurryfiles.com/submissions/thumbnails/16/27/16271bd0-b89e-4d80-a7a8-2dedbae5fd3b","description":"#2 of Friends","content":"\u0026nbsp;\n\nWhen we first met,\n\nI didn't know what to expect,\n\nAll I knew is that I couldn't let\n\nThis depression plague you and keep you in debt,\n\nOn the outcome, I couldn't easily bet,\n\nBut after seeing your life with a huge dent,\n\nI couldn't let you go on without your life being well-meant.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nTime went on and you eventually recovered,\n\nWe gradually became friends,\n\nNot the greatest, I'll admit,\n\nBut friends nonetheless.\n\nRest assured, I felt a special connection somehow,\n\nLike maybe this was the one,\n\nThe one that I could trust with the threads of my life.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nTragedy never seemed to leave you be,\n\nI nearly break down into tears every second you tell me\n\nOf how life can be so cruel, but to other around you,\n\nIt's a cup of tea.\n\nI tried my best, I really did,\n\nTo be a star in your darkest nights,\n\nNot shining as bright as others,\n\nBut bright enough to light your path.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nThen came the day you lost your star,\n\nYour best and brightest,\n\nYou only had a couple stars now.\n\nI told myself that I was going to shine the brightest,\n\nAnd I'm glad I did.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nOur lives may not be the best, and we may be two outcasts in the world,\n\nUnaccepted by society, by our own kin,\n\nBut we'll travel our path together,\n\nWe won't give a care,\n\nWe'll get better, together,\n\nAnd I'll still light your way in the dark,\n\nNot as a star anymore,\n\nBut your handheld Zippo, there whenever you need me most.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nEvery second I spend with you, I still think back to that moment,\n\nWhen you were at your lowest,\n\nAnd I stopped to help you up and out of the dirt.\n\nDo I regret that moment?\n\nNo, of course not.\n\nI'm thankful for our first meet.\n\nBecause if it wasn't for that,\n\nI wouldn't have found\n\nYou.\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Friends","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/122891-you.json"}}
