Jack seems to be particularly popular among readers so this is Jack's thoughts after the end of Chapter 3 late in the night as he holds a sleeping Richard.

What do you think? Any other spirits from whom you'd like a page of thought?

Still several more days in this week and some of it could be filled with more snippets!
The Gift
A Glympse Beyond the Veil

Ah, Richard, so many in this world, Human and Spirit alike seek to find that which brings them the most joy; how unfortunate is it that the majority of us never find it? None other may understand that which I have discovered: the experience of holding thee while thou dost slumber througout the night. Spirits cannot touch the physical and Humans cannot touch Spirits-- tis what they say, yet we both know that to be not entirely true.

So many thoughts flow through my mind as we lay together upon thy bed; at times I find myself jealous of thy reprieve from the waking world and wonder what tis like to dream. Yet, even as I find myself seeking an understanding of sleep I realize just how lucky a Gryphon am I that I may be with thee during these quiet hours-- something I would have to sacrifice were I to find slumber myself. No... if given the choice I realize that thou art my dream; nothing in sleep could compare to this.

Life has changed these past weeks, my boy, and in ways I could scarcely imagine, let alone believe. Thou hath become a man, and one of whom I am most proud. Thou art seeking self betterment for the sake of your fellow Humans-- to become a caretaker and a healer. How could I not admire this trait within thee? Thy path is clear and thou dost follow it with dedication and commitment, and I am honored that I may be here by thy side-- all the more blessed that we can now commune. Tis one thing to be a silent, unseen guardian, but another entirely to have the attention of thy ward, and thy attention is priceless.

Richard, my boy, there is so much I would say to thee had I the words to express it but, I realize, I lack even the understanding of them myself. I have heard stories of Guardians who have found a true connection with their Wards and in almost all of those cases the tale ends poorly, for what is a Guardian who can no longer think rationally when that Spirit's heart is overcome by emotion? I love thee, Richard, in a way I can say that about few Humans. Thou art a Seer, and one I had never expected to encounter. I am uncertain as to how thou hast come by The Gift, but I thank god every day for it-- and for thee.

So, what could I say to thee while thou dost sleep? What words could I free from my beak without fear of judgment, reprisal, or regret? I love thee as much as a Spirit can love. Thou art my ward, this is true, but thou art a set of eyes that allows me to see the world in a new way. Thou art my heart, for truly it beats only when we are together. Thou art my Human, and that makes thee my soul. I am complete with thee in a way no other Human has fulfilled me in nearly two thousand years. Thou art my life.

I know not what the future holds, nor can I say for certain where thy life shall lead thee, but, rest assured, I shall be there with thee-- whether standing behind thee as thy Guardian, before thee as thy shield, or beside thee as thy companion, I pray that thou mayest some day realize that there is naught that I wouldn't do for thee. Ask for me, my boy, and thou shalt have all I can offer. As surely as thou art mine, I am yours, through and through. Ic lufie be, Richard... ealneweg."
