I see you\n\nin too many empty places: the rug\n\nat the top of the stairs, the worn grass\n\nbeneath the apple tree, the phantom warmth\n\nwhere you curled between my legs\n\nfor sleep. Oh, it gets better: some nights\n\nI haul myself to the outside wounds\n\nof starlight, demand an answer from God.\n\nI won't lie: it's crossed my mind, smothering\n\naway the sobs between the hearth-brown blanket\n\na shade away from yours. It no longer cradles\n\nyour smell--or you. Just this pathetic man\n\nthat steals away a moment to dwell\n\non his failure--embarrassing, right?\n\nI picked you first. Held you. I let you go--gave up.\n\nWatched your eyes slip into that hollowness,\n\nthat permanence, as you slumped on the vet's cold floor,\n\nsomething growing inside of you that shouldn't--\n\nthe assistant passing me a tissue box\n\nto plug the leak that now drips so cleverly\n\nwhen no one's around to hear or see.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poems","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/203311-gay-wolves-fucking.json"}}
