It was the kind of weather you loved, when the thunder would cause the floor to rumble slightly. Something about it was just comforting to you.
>When every minute or so when the room would be lit up for a split second by a flash of lightning, quickly followed by the deep rumble of thunder, it was just comforting to you somehow.
>You thought it was relaxing. You've always liked storms.
>Unfortunately for her, your roommate in no way shared your feelings for the current weather.
>Your roommate, an Anthro Border Collie gal named Sarah, had always been pretty skittish around storms. Thunderstorms in particular, though she never would explain why.
>As a result of her phobia, she had been having quite the tough time lately.
>During the past couple of days, every time a clap of thunder would ring out, you would see Sarah flinch hard and jump a bit, followed by some quiet whining and seeking the nearest blanket to crawl under and cover herself with.
>It would be pretty sad if it wasn't so cute.
>Poor Sarah.

>Currently, you were just laying in bed, letting the sound of rain lull you to sleep.
>Just as you were about to drift off though, you heard a noise out in the hallway.
>It was sound of claws quickly clacking against the wood floor.
>You groggily flip over, facing your door just as it slowly creaked open.
>Sure enough, illuminated by the light from her phone, stood Sarah in your doorway.
>"A-Anon? Are you awake?"
>There's another sudden flash of lightning, this one pretty close to your building, and a loud roll of thunder that seems to shake the floor and walls.
>You can her a loud yelp from Sarah, who very nearly drops her phone, fumbling with it in the dark.
>You softly speak to her, acknowledging her presence and confirming that you were, in fact, awake.
>She whined loudly, quickly shuffling into your room.
>"I'm sorry to bother you... I know you're trying to sleep."
>"But... Um..."
>Her ears flick back for a moment, and she sheepishly smiles.
>"C-Can I share the bed with you?"
>Before you can respond, she continues:
>"Just for tonight! Uh... The storm. I can't get to sleep."
>Another sudden flash of lightning and loud rumble of thunder, and this time she \\*does\\* drop her phone.
>With the light out, you can't see her anymore, your night vision nonexistent. Her having black fur didn't help either.
>You gently sighed as she whined in the dark, and pulled the blanket back for her.
>Her night vision way better than yours, Sarah immediately crawled into your bed, pressing her front against you and gently pulling the covers over herself.
>It was only a twin sized bed, so she had to get real close to keep herself from falling off the edge of the bed.
>She was warm and fluffy, her soft fur pressing against your bare chest. Shit, you probably should have put on a shirt. Thank God you were at least wearing pajama bottoms.
>Another crack of thunder and lightning, and she quickly wrapped her arms around you, her legs curling up close between the two of you.
>Without a word, she buried her muzzle into your shoulder, and you can hear her take a couple quick sniffs.
>She seemed to relax almost immediately, her grip on you loosening.
>You pet the top of her head, earning a satisfied huff from the Border Collie.

>The two of you just laid there together, listening to the sound of rain and the occasional crack of thunder.
>She would of course shiver each time it happened, gripping you tighter for a moment.
>Lucky for you though, you knew the perfect method to calm her down. Almost every time, it would work every time.
>You freed one of your arms from her grip, eliciting an annoyed huff as she tried to wrangle it back into her floof.
>She would stop in her tracks though as soon as your fingers would make contact with her soft head.
>You started to softly stroke the fluff on the top of her head, causing her to practically melt into you, going completely limp.
>Within minutes, you were pretty certain she was fast asleep.
>As she began to snooze softly, her head nestled into your neck under the blankets.
>Good dog.
>Her fur tickled against your skin, but it's something you had become used to by now. This scenario had played out more than once by now...
>In any case, it felt good to have Sarah by your side.
>Petting the Collie one last time, you yawned and got ready to finally fall asleep.
>Sarah clearly had objections to that plan though, as the second you would stop petting her, she began to softly whine in her sleep, wiggling slightly.
>Not wanting to disappoint, you kept on petting her.
>You're not sure how long you ran your hands over her soft fluffy head, but you ended up falling asleep as you did it.

>You cracked your eyes open, deeply sighing through your nose.
>Yawning, you tried to sit up, only to be stopped by a mysterious weight.
>At first you were confused, until you looked directly to your right.
>Sarah was still laying here, with your torso held in a deathgrip as her muzzle was buried into your shoulder, blowing warm air onto your neck with every breath.
>Still groggy, you had almost forgotten about last night...
>In any case, here came the fun part. Trying to get out of bed without waking her.
>Alright, well... Baby steps first.
>You tried to scooch over to the left side of the bed, only to be met by the first problem.
>The second you jostled her even a little, she would let out a cute little whine.
>Yeah, this was gonna be a problem...
>You were gonna have to just take it slow.

>Around 20 minutes later, you managed to somehow achieve an almost impossible task.
>You had managed to get up out of bed, grab a set of clothes, and exit the bedroom, all without waking Sarah.
>It took some extremely advanced maneuvering, but you managed to leave her alone in bed with a large pillow in her grip instead of your body.
>Being your pillow, it smelled like your head too, to which her nose was none the wiser.
>Now that you were free, you looked around the apartment.
>It was the early morning, with the rain still pattering against the window.
>If you remembered the forecast accurately, most of the storm should have passed on by now, leaving only some scattered showers.
>As you couldn't hear any thunder, you supposed it must have been correct. Good for Sarah, at least.
>After a quick bathroom break, you walked into the small kitchen for a glass of water, looking at the clock on the microwave.
>It was only 7 AM, still somewhat dark outside.
>Usually Sarah would have been up for a run by now, but it didn't seem like that was gonna happen with the rain going on.
>She had always been annoyed at the prospect of getting her fur wet, especially for no good reason.
>Filling a glass, you looked over at the cupboards and fridge, an idea flashing through your mind.
>Hey. Sarah hadn't been feeling too great because of the weather the past few days. Why not treat her to some breakfast?
>Your mind made up, you set the now empty glass next to the sink.
>You were gonna make her some blueberry pancakes, her favorite, and there wasn't a damn thing in the world that could stop you.
>Moving quickly, so Sarah wouldn't wake up and ruin the surprise, you took out all the ingredients you need.
>And since you weren't particularly skilled at cooking, the ingredients consist of just Bisquick, milk, and eggs. You couldn't forget the blueberries, either. She had picked them up for you from the store, since she knew you liked them.
>You slapped most of the ingredients into a bowl, and mixed them up good. You added the blueberries, and then got prepped to cook up a nice amount of pancakes. Sarah may not look like it, but \\*man\\* could she get an appetite sometimes, especially for breakfast food.
>Taking a moment to grease up a cast iron pan, you poured in some batter and started cooking the sweet discs up.

>20 minutes later, you had a good stack of pancakes cooked, more than enough for the two of you.
>Sure, some of them may have been a little dark around the edges, but you'd eat those ones. Nobody makes every pancake perfect!
>As if right on cue, you hear your door click open.
>Looking into the hallway, you could see a tired Collie slowly walking through the hall.
>Her nose twitched, Sarah stopping in her tracks as she sniffed the air.
>She perked up as soon as the scent of blueberry pancakes hit her nose, the 6' dog flying over to the kitchen as she rushed to see the stack you had prepared.
>She had a huge smile on her face, her nose sniffing at the air madly.
>"Anon! You made pancakes!?"
>She stopped in the kitchen, admiring the large amount of pancakes you had sitting on a plate.
>"With blueberries, too... My favorite..."
>She looked to you with a warm grin before pouncing.
>You were wrapped in a tight hug, the Collie gal rubbing her snout against your face and neck.
>"You're the best, Anon..."
>Smiling, you told her to take a seat. You'd fix her up a nice plate.
>Not wasting any time, she quickly plopped herself down at the table, her tail wagging the whole time.
>As you put a plate loaded with pancakes in front of her, Sarah began to butter the pancakes, not wanting to put any jam or syrup on them.
>As much as it must pain her, she waited to eat until you were sitting with her at the table, a plate of your own in front of her.
>You put some butter on your pancakes as well, and then both of you dug in.
>After all, pancakes always tasted better when you had them with a friend.
>Sarah turned to look at you as she swallowed a mouthful of her breakfast.
>"Hey, Anon..."
>She gave you a shy smile, her ears swiveled back.
>"Do you, uh, think we could maybe go back to bed after this? I'm, um, still a little tired. O-Or we could just hang out on the couch!"
>You chuckled a bit, making the Collie whine and look away.
>Of course you would cuddle with her some more.
>Just as soon as you finished these pancakes, of course.

END"}
