Part 10c: Tokyo, Japan (Ice & Sam)

~MEANWHILE~

Sam gave a shrug and a nod toward Ice as the two males headed off in the direction that Radar had pointed him. Actually though that meant that all of them had to leave through the smaller private-jet terminal nearby anyway, so in ones and twos everyone from the plane moved off in a group more or less together. “Sure, come on along. Looks like your partner is getting herself hooked up with someone else?” He grinned and punched Ice in the shoulder, “I’ve always been a loner, but you two have been pretty close. Not that it’s my business to pry or anything.”

Ice flicked his ear at Sam and shrugged. “Snow is like a sister to me. We trained together, we know what each of us has dealt with at the school we were at. Just because she found someone she’s interested in doesn’t mean our bond as friends will diminish any. But if that boy hurts her in any way, he’s meat. Where’d he tell you to get food at, anyway? And what food are we getting?”

Sam nodded, “Never was really that close to someone… I mean, like… I’ve had friends and all, but no real siblings so yeah. Something about Ace gets me all ruffled.” He cleared his throat, “Anyway, he told me that she likes food from this place not so far from the airport, ‘Nano...Nanosato’ or somethin’ like that. Said to get a couple of different things from there. Tempura and Sukiyaki, I think.” He laughed, “All these Japanese names. Not like in the states where you can walk in and say ‘slap me down a hamburger, or a fish sandwich or something’.”

Ice nodded, “Sounds like a good place to get us something too. And don’t worry, I won’t barge in on your time with her. I know not to mess with a bro’s femme. We all learned a long time ago that on these missions, we really only have each other to count on. But, it’s actually in the main building. C’mon, Sammy. I’ll lead you there. Nanosato has delicious food. Their sushi is divine.”

“Oh, so you know the place?” Sam asked, looking over at his companion as they walked the distance toward the main terminal of the airport. “Didn’t know you had been here before. So, is there any sort of local custom I should be aware of so that I don’t stick my foot in my mouth the first time I open it?”

Ice grinned at the fennec. “Snow and I have both been here before. As for customs, Tokyo has been open to tourists for many years, so there's not much that hasn't been done by an ignorant tourist in the past. We're not going to be here long enough for sake, but while it's served in a cup the size of a shot glass, you don't shoot it, you sip it. You know, to savor the taste and aroma. Kinda like wine. Also, tempura and sukiyaki are both full meals. My suggestion is to get both and let her choose which one she wants. You eat the other. Offer her some of yours and if she offers you some of hers, taste it. It's a romantic thing to do.”

“Well thanks for the tips. I’ll be sure to grab both and offer her some. I’m kinda surprised you aren’t chasing her tail actually, Ice. You’re both wolves after all, and she was giving off some pretty strong scents in there. No one else seemed to notice it though.” He shrugged, actually curious about that. “I’ve had my share of lovers in my time...quite a few. But she was definitely putting it out there.”

Ice chuckled at Sammy, “Timber saw both of our mates. And I met mine, but she was too young when I met her. So no matter what pheromones a femme puts out, I won’t react, unless it’s her.” His thoughts went to the black leopard femme that was his mate, then shook his head slightly. “I know my mate is old enough now, but I don’t want to force anything on her, so I’m letting her come find me.”

Sambuca raised his eyebrows with interest, “I’ve read about this kind of permanent bonding. It doesn’t happen to everyone from the start, I’ve heard, but when it does happen, you tend to know about it. All of my past lovers have been flings, or girlfriends that didn’t last too long. I figured that when the right one came along, I’d know...perhaps this is it, eh?” He had turned to follow Ice, since the wolf knew the way to the restaurant they were seeking anyway.

Ice chuckled and gave Sam a nod. “Permanent bonding with a mate is rare. But it’s something that has long lived in my family, going back into Nordic mythology. Timber has it worse than me or you. You and Ace are both on the canine scale, and my mate is a hunter in feline form. But Timber… well, his mate … if she lives up to her species reputation, we’ll be lucky to see him once a week!” They made it to Nanosato quickly and Ice put in his Sushi order, and got a couple Japanese beers to take back to the jet with him, then moved to the side, letting Sam put in his order.

Sam smirked and gave a little shake of his head, his tail batting this way and that as well, “Oh, she’s a Bun, is she?” He asked with a glance at his companion, “She’s gonna be a handful. I was with one once, that was a bit hard to get out of to tell the truth, even if she was nearly everything I could want in a lover when it came to stamina and desire. I almost feel sorry for Timber now that you’ve told me.” He fell silent, but then chuckled a little to himself as he thought about it again, “Well I guess we get the ‘normal’ ladies. I’ve got to try and woo our fair pilot.”

Ice gave Sam a look, shaking his head. “Don’t tell Timber I told you about his mate. Ever. I doubt he wants the guys to know until he meets her.” The cashier takes Sam’s orders, the two of them moving off to the side to wait for their food to be cooked, in Sam’s case, and ready. Ice drops his voice as well, “I’ve been with a bun too. But since Timber told me about my kitty, I haven’t felt the need for another female. I’m just waiting for her to find me. And it was only just a little while ago that Timber had the vision of our mates, like within the last six months or so. “

Sam nodded firmly, “Mum’s the word, eh? No worries. I don’t blabber when it’s not wanted. I’ll keep my lips sealed, besides, I’ll have far better things to worry about, I hope.” he winked and then stepped to the side of the restaurant counter to let a young couple push in behind them and ask to be seated at one of the booths, “I was never the type to settle down, so you know, a pilot might be good for me...at least she travels a lot.”

Ice chuckled, shaking his head a bit, “I think you’ll settle down if she’s the right one for you, Sam. But you guys just met, so give it some time, see if you have anything in common with her. Other than the love of travelling and fighting.” His sushi was ready, and he grabbed the box it was in, putting the beers into his pockets so he could carry the box and not lose a beer.

Sam nodded, “I don’t think there's much chance of escaping a bonded love if that’s what this is, even if we find we have little in common. Won’t that mean that we’ll just be repeatedly drawn to one another even if we don’t marry?” He shrugged, “Nah, don’t answer that. I’ll just figure this out as I go along. It’s what I’ve done in every other area of my life for a long while… keeps the sense of adventure fresh.” He grinned. Soon enough his order was ready and he gathered up the boxes and drinks as well that he would be taking back to the plane. “Mnnn… this stuff smells delicious.”

Ice led the way out of the restaurant, heading back to the plane with Sam. “There’s a lot of police activity here. I wonder what’s going on here. It’s apparently something big for all this force here. Let’s hurry back and make sure that Tzar and Zlata are okay.” As they hurried back to the jet, Skorch joined them, shaking her head at all the police presence at the airport, apparently having the same idea as the two males. She had a bag with food for five and another with drinks for five, since she was the errand girl this layover. Luckily the teams tended to rotate who got what detail, so it wasn’t the same one all the time running for food for everyone.

“Yeah, I don’t mind lots of cops around, but this is getting a little unnerving. I don’t like it.” Sam said, shouldering past a group of businessmen and then seeing Skorch ahead. They joined up with her and moved together, she spoke first, “Must be something big going down. We may have to take off in a hurry, I hope Ace got the plane fueled.” Sam snapped his fingers, “Dammit...and here I wanted a nice lunch with her without any kind of hullabaloo. Now this food will probably be cold before we can eat it.” He sighed, then shrugged, “C'est la vie I guess…”

Ice shook his head. “They won't give clearance for fast getaway. And Ace said we weren't taking off until everyone was back on board. You might have time to eat, Sam.” His eyes constantly gazed around, looking for any of the others heading back to the jet.

By the time the small group had gotten close to the jetway, most of the others, aside from Cat, Crypto, Chameleon and Isabella were already waiting. Zlata and Tzar had obviously waited aboard. Sam waved toward the little group and the three of them approached. “Everything ok guys?” he asked as they met up, just checking in.

Radar and Snow had made it back before Ice and Sam. Their food was in bags they held, and Radar motioned to the others to head on board, moving to turn Ace towards the plane and putting himself between the pilot, passengers and agents of Japanese law. Turning back to them, he said formally, “Watashi no pairotto wa, hik?ki no shoy?-sha ga t?j? shite inai ma ni kanojo no hik?ki ga s?saku sa rete iru no ga ki ni naranaito anata ni setsumei shite kureru koto wa tashikadesu. Kanojo ga kaette kuru no o matte, hoka no j?kyaku ga hik?ki ni notte morau tame ni, jiy? ni aruite iku jiy? ga ?ini arigataidesu. Arigat?gozaimashita. (I'm certain my pilot explained to you gentlemen that the owner of the plane doesn't feel comfortable with her plane being searched while she's not on board. If you would please wait for her to return, and let our other passengers board the plane, we would greatly appreciate the freedom for them to walk around freely. Thank you. - Japanese)”

By the time that the rest of the group had arrived, Radar was already negotiating with the group of officers that were waiting, rather impatiently, for the chance to board and search the plane. Evidently he was fluent enough in Japanese that he was able to communicate directly. Sambuca watched intently for a few moments, then shuffled up the ramp with the rest of their posse, holding the containers of food that he had bought, for himself and for Ace. He didn’t know how long they were going to be on the ground, but he did know that now was not the time to be offering the beautiful pilot anything to eat...while law enforcement was standing outside the plane, waiting to board.
