"Misanthropy"

I should be happy. I should be satisfied. I have possessions that would satisfy most, a reliable car, a college education on which I am making good progress, I top of the line laptop, and access to high speed internet both wireless and wired. I should be happy and yet I'm not. I have found few friends despite being in a school that is six times the size of my high school. Separated from those I knew since grade school I feel so alone. Perhaps that is the progenitor of my discontent; the one need that I have not satisfied nor see an easy way to satisfy. As I walk the hallways I am confronted with the reality that I only know the certainty of my own existence. Those around me are little more then scenery who I occasionally interact with. And so alone in the night, I ponder the alienation and loneliness of the modern world with no company except the stars and moon. It is in this lone moment of musing that I feel a mosquito crawling on the back of my neck. Reaching to remove it I feel an object the size of a AAA battery. With only the time to remove it and look at it ever so briefly, my view fades into a black haze. I see several large figures around me and it is with this that my view goes black.
