{"sf1_id":138892,"sf2_id":"Xek9EOQn","title":"Open Season","author":"Auctor","words":441,"posted_at":"2010-04-13T02:33:00.000Z","tags":["Avian","Death","Deer","Gun","Hunt","Hunting","Poem","Poetry","Predator/Prey","Prey","carnivore","goose","meat"],"url":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/138892-open-season","original_url":"https://sofurry.com/s/Xek9EOQn","image_url":"https://cdn.sofurryfiles.com/submissions/thumbnails/b6/f0/b6f02231-c76a-492c-b817-0952b2a0cf84","description":"","content":"I hereby declare, this very day,  \nan open season, on all the prey.  \nOn geese, and ducks, and mainly deer  \nso human kind has naught to fear  \nfrom overpopulated creatures  \nbreaking the cars upon their features  \ndestroying gardens, lawns, and trees.  \nDisguising coats shift in the breeze  \nThey stand, so tempting for us to hunt,  \nfor their own good, we shoot the runt.  \nIn theory only, but a hunter wants  \na healthy body, theirs to flaunt.  \nFor their own good, there are too many  \nthey'll just die if we don't kill any  \nof disease and shortages of food  \nso shooting them is far from crude.  \nThe worst animal for this  \nwhose numbers are very amiss  \nwalks not on four legs, nor has wings,  \nfeathers, fur, those kinds of things,  \nbut hairlessly creates a tool  \ntheir environment with which they rule  \ntheir numbers unchecked keep on growing  \nsomehow still they are unknowing  \nthey can not see they soon will die,  \nhungry in their graves they'll lie  \nto become soylent green tomorrow  \nsince streets cannot be tilled or furrowed  \nso by all means, it's open season  \non geese, ducks, deer, and humans  \nthe last being the target mainly  \nwe'll shoot them, put them down humanely  \ntheir screams and fear they matter not,  \nwe know better, it is their lot  \na bloody blade removes their skin  \nwatched from the woods by their own kin  \ncooked and eaten, or left rotting  \nin a bag tied up with knotting.  \nIt is still better for these dears  \nthan starving out over the years  \nbut here's a thought, truly are they  \nso overpopulated as we say  \nor is it really us, by reason,  \nthe species who needs death this season.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\ni'm really in a couplet-y mood lately, not sure why.\u0026nbsp; i got out of the couplet thing for awhile there and just just finished this.\u0026nbsp; unrelated: ugh endrhyme \\*shudders\\* (but i love it)\n\n\u0026nbsp; anyhow, i don't mind hunters or meat eaters, i personally just try to avoid it if i don't need to, but it BOTHERS me when people justify it.\u0026nbsp; if you're going to go hunting, just be like \"i want to go hunting...that's why i hunt\" and then just don't be wasteful (letting it sit on the ground is still better than those idiots who leave it in a plastic bag hanging from a tree), but when you say \"i hunt because they're overpopulated\" that's just being dishonest, or \"hunting the sick ones,\" that's just a lie.\u0026nbsp; be honest, you're hunting because you want to hunt.\u0026nbsp; is there something WRONG with that?\u0026nbsp; (unless you're hunting people, then i recommend secrecy...the government frowns on it)  \n  \n\n"}
