Masaru was on her side, protecting her against any enemy... helping her through any hardship she may ever meet... without wanting anything back for it. All the spiritual being ever wanted in return was being allowed to be by her side... and there was nowhere else she would ever want him to be!\n\nHer mind too finally finding some peace, her brain finally found a new topic, to replay in her dreams... a story of sorrow and joy, as\u0026nbsp;you may call it.\n\nHer mind took her back to a place she had visited a long time ago... it was on her 25th birthday, her father finally showed some consideration for his little girl, going as far as to even arrange a big birthday party for her! YET... what had sounded just too good to be true, indeed was too good to be true... even though it ended in the best way she could only have wished for.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n06.09.2017 - 5 p.m.\u0026nbsp;- Katherine Leroy's 25th birthday.\n\n\"OH-MY-GOSH...\u0026nbsp;Really paps? I'll be quick...!\", She responded hastily like that, not wanting to spoil the good mood her father was in and thus\u0026nbsp;risking him calling off the whole party, as a punishment for her misbehavior.\n\nBeing dressed and ready an astonishing 21 minutes later, she hastily went to her father, informing him\u0026nbsp;to be ready for their departure.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nDriving to the airport, Asami was surprised once more... as her father indeed did talk to her... how her last few weeks were going, what she had done in their free time... she really couldn't believe he once actually behaved... well, like a parent!\n\nNo talking about any deals, or how he killed poor tigers and lions, just to be able to eat there members and testicles and\u0026nbsp;throw the rest away like it was\u0026nbsp;garbage. She did not have to endure any weird pep-talk, about how she should marry some son of some\u0026nbsp;divorced female CEO so he could make a move on her company. It almost made Katherine hope, her father indeed was not beyond redemption.\n\nAs they arrived in their plane, they were even joking, laughing like all those years of abuse had never happened.\n\nSuddenly she believed it, as he called her his baby girl... she believed he did indeed care for her, as he even remembered she always wanted to go on a trip to one of the ski resorts at Mount Fuji... and he had rented the whole place, just for her birthday!\n\nKatherine did not believe her father indeed having gone\u0026nbsp;to all that trouble, just to make her birthday memorable... until\u0026nbsp;they arrived at the place\u0026nbsp;at around 6 o'clock. It was packed... but not with any people the young women would have known... NO! The few people she did\u0026nbsp;kind off\u0026nbsp;know, were important CEO's who already had suggested for Katherine, to marry her sons... one even offering her lesbian daughter, should Jean-Killian's daughter 'swing in that direction'.\n\n\"You tricked me again! I don't want to'... but spread your legs wide and take whatever you can get... do you understand!\"\n\nShaking her head in panic, her eyes clearly speaking of the fear she had towards this man... he suddenly let\u0026nbsp;go of her and slapped her right across the face.\n\nPointing at the resort he repeated, now clearly abuzz with anger, commanding coldly: \"You're gonna go in there... and spread those scrawny legs of yours... UNDERSTAND! Cause if you don't... I THROW YOU OUT! No money... no roof over your head... and so help me god, I myself will make sure nobody will want to hire you worthless piece of trash EVER AGAIN! Or do you want to leave me? Just wanna\u0026nbsp;run off, as that\u0026nbsp;whore\u0026nbsp;of a mother of your's did!?\"\n\nAll too well seeing the crazy glimmer, he always had in his eyes, when he talked himself in a frenzy like that, the young woman hastily agreed, vanishing in the next toilet she could find, to redo her make-up... so nobody would realize how her father did not fret about beating his own daughter, if she did not comply with his demands.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nThe evening ending in the disaster, she should have anticipated it\u0026nbsp;to be\u0026nbsp;from the very beginning, Katherine did her very best to keep a low profile, as to stir as little attention about herself as possible, as to not call the attention of all those\u0026nbsp;wanna-be husbands... and wives of her.\n\nNot quite succeeding in her task, as more than once her father found her, to introduce her to another of those spoiled rats, whereas she literally had to give all of them their contacts and promise to call or make an appointment or whatnot... as she was dead-certain, her father would not shy away of beating her to death, right in front of all those people, considering how enraged he already had been\u0026nbsp;outside of\u0026nbsp;the building.\n\nOn one point of the evening though... she suddenly snapped... at least this is how she would describe it in hindsight. Excusing herself from her dialogue partner, her father had dragged him to, she explained: \"I'll go for a walk!\"\n\n\"What? You gone utterly\u0026nbsp;crazy now? The hell you do...!\", Her father responded agitated, yet the cold glare, the young women suddenly was able to produce, made him quiet down rather quickly, if only a little.\n\n\"I humored all of\u0026nbsp;your requests, so it is just fair for me to finally get some alone time, isn't it?\"\n\n\"No... especially as this dress and all is worth more than this pitiful\u0026nbsp;caparison, they call a resort!\"\n\n\"So what? you want me to leave in my undies? You sure you'd want that? As that would surely\u0026nbsp;be really bad for your reputation!\", The young woman explained calmly, giving her father a quick kiss on the cheek - just for those spectators of their's - whispering in this ear, \"You'd better focus on entertaining those guests of your's... cause as far as I remember, they - quiet contrary to me - indeed are making you money, aren't they?\"\n\nLike that just leaving the building, her father did, strangely enough, have no complains at all... was it cause of her reasoning, her sudden, unexpected, more or less indisputable backtalk, or even because he was just stunned at her sudden bravery... she did never learn, but as she didn't care either, it was of\u0026nbsp;little to\u0026nbsp;no consequence to her.\n\nIt took her but a few minutes, as to ask herself: Why in god's name the sudden urge to go up and running, to go climb Mount Fuji... in a dress and high heels worth more than her allowance for half a lifetime, at that? Not to mention the sudden courage to stand up to her father! Sure, the words absolutely had been her's... but why she suddenly was willing to risk another beat-down, was way beyond her on that day.\n\nYet... considering all the unnecessary complication - called a freaking dress and high heels - Katherine did not let herself be stopped! Even if it was just out of the spur of the moment... she was sure it all had to have a deeper meaning. Since her youth, she had become a more cold and calculating kind of woman... yet she still had one firm believe: Nothing happened for no reason... and she was dead certain neither did this!\n\nSurely all of her - or\u0026nbsp;more like her father's - guests thought, she wouldn't go too far, as it was freezing\u0026nbsp;and even though the maids had indeed brought her some warm undergarment too...\u0026nbsp;it\u0026nbsp;still\u0026nbsp;was\u0026nbsp;freezing! However... following whatever called her, Katherine, without thinking, took one of the other guests heavy winter coats and was gone!\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nFor about eight hours, which felt like weeks to her, she followed the path up the mountain, more than one wanderer, returning from his trip, staring at her in shock and disbelieve,\u0026nbsp;as starting to climb the mountain this late at night was all but a\u0026nbsp;bright\u0026nbsp;idea.\u0026nbsp;Lots of em tried to reason with the young women... yet\u0026nbsp;as she just shooed away each and every one of them, nobody dared to question the intention of the crazy hiker.\n\nFinally, about almost three\u0026nbsp;hours later, almost\u0026nbsp;twice as long\u0026nbsp;as it would take an ordinary hiker, with proper equipment and knowledge about the terrain, Katherine finally arrived at her destination. She did not know where she was... or why she needed to be here... but looking at the giant cavern, appearing as if somebody hat cut a perfect, rectangular prism right out of the stone of the mountain, the young woman just knew... she had arrived!\n\nWalking into this unnatural recess, she found herself more but puzzled about how it came to be. Its width and heights were about ten feet, ceiling, and floor, just as much as the walls\u0026nbsp;perfectly parallel until\u0026nbsp;it ended, maybe about five\u0026nbsp;hundred feet farther ahead, in deep, impenetrable darkness.\n\n\"HELLO...? Is anybody there? I know, I somehow was called here... SO TELL ME: What do you want with me?\", She shouted into the depth of the prismatic cave, her voice week and shaking, from all the time in the merciless weather conditions.\n\n\"Oh... so you indeed came... despite all the hardships on your way?\", A deep, dark voice answered her from the depths of the cave, the recess suddenly filled with an unnatural light... emanating\u0026nbsp;from way back\u0026nbsp;in the depths of the cavern... not strong enough to light it\u0026nbsp;all the way.\n\n\"My whole life has been a single hardship so far...\", Katherine explained in a shaky voice, finally entering the cave, leaning against the wall, as to not collapse on this last, short way to her goal, \"You called... somehow even gave me the\u0026nbsp;courage to talk back at my dad... how couldn't I\u0026nbsp;come...?\"\n\nSlowly venturing deeper in the strange cave, the\u0026nbsp;first she could discern was\u0026nbsp;a strange glowing cross, right on the end of the tunnel... before a bit later realizing it to be a set of chains... weakly glowing, white,\u0026nbsp;crystal-like chains, keeping some kind of giant beast chained down\u0026nbsp;in the very back of the cavern. Carefully stepping even closer, she found one\u0026nbsp;chain\u0026nbsp;being attached to each wall and the floor and ceiling, while on the other end connecting to another chain, slung around the creature's neck, like a collar.\n\n\"What... what are you...?\", She finally asked in disbelieve, as she could eventually make out most of the chimera-like beast's black and white body.\n\nIt's front the ones of a lion, it's rear the one of an ox, ending in a\u0026nbsp;powerful lion's tail... his slightly human-like face itself resembling a mix of some cat and monkey.\n\n\"So what... you fearing me now?\", The beast asked\u0026nbsp;Katherine, who to be\u0026nbsp;honest, was more fascinated\u0026nbsp;by the muscular body, than anything else... no matter how many eyes and deadly blade-like horns\u0026nbsp;adorned its body.\n\n\"No...\", The woman called out in a weak breath, slowly reaching her hands out, to carefully touch the big head\u0026nbsp;of the strange creature.\n\n\"No... just curious. You\u0026nbsp;look\u0026nbsp;strong... powerful... brave...\", She explained, talking a little bit more clearly now, as she explored the giant\u0026nbsp;beast's face with tender touches, \"Yet... you seem kind too...\u0026nbsp;dedicated... loyal...\"\n\n\"OH... you're guessing all that just by my appearance?\"\n\n\"Why... am I wrong?\"\n\n\"Well... to be honest... not at all... no wonder it was\u0026nbsp;you, who had been sent to be my handler!\"\n\n\"WHAT.. handler?\", Katherine called out, stumbling back a few steps, looking at the creature in disbelieve, \"A handler... like... your master... making you...\u0026nbsp;my slave?\"\n\n\"What... you don't like that thought?\", The chimera-like creature\u0026nbsp;asked surprised, getting\u0026nbsp;an oh too clear answer of his potential handler.\n\n\"NO! I\u0026nbsp;don't\u0026nbsp;like it... not at all!\", The young woman proclaimed passionately, \"Nobody should be anybody's slave, or\u0026nbsp;anything\u0026nbsp;alike! Nobody... should be treated as\u0026nbsp;property... his only purpose in\u0026nbsp;existence... to please... no rights of there own... no life... of there own...\"\n\nFalling silent at the end of her speech, the beast in front of her gave a quiet chuckle, explaining: \"So... would me explaining being a handler would mean you, being one of a pair, make it better? Part of an indestructible bond, only death itself could do apart?\"\n\n\"What... what are you saying...?\", Katherine asked in confusion, shyly stepping closer to the creature once more.\n\n\"I am Masaru... I am what people once worshiped, just as much as feared, as a Hakutaku!\", The beast explained, finally introducing itself, \"The magic which summoned and\u0026nbsp;bound me here years ago... it chose you as my handler... and allowed me to finally call upon you, as you by sheer chance found yourself near this very mountain.\"\n\n\"It's not quite an accident... my father took me here... promising myself a proper party for my 25th birthday... yet all he had in mind once more,\u0026nbsp;was\u0026nbsp;only his own benefit!\", The young blonde\u0026nbsp;explained in a bleak tone, before guiding this conversation back to it's topic, asking, \"... but more importantly: if it's\u0026nbsp;not about\u0026nbsp;making\u0026nbsp;you my slave or some other bollocks, about one being the other's property... what's that handler thing of your's supposed to mean then?\"\n\n\"Well... me being always at your side, and vise versa... being an insuperable\u0026nbsp;partner... and a source of strength much needed for what's to come.\"\n\n\"For what's to come?\"\n\n\"Yes... for the reckoning...!\"\n\n\"THE RECKONING? Like\u0026nbsp;judgment day?\", Katherine asked in utter disbelief, yet quickly being interrupted\u0026nbsp;by Masaru.\n\n\"No-no-no-no-no... not\u0026nbsp;that\u0026nbsp;reckoning... yet quite similar in its consequences. Years ago, an ancient spell had been cast, calling forth\u0026nbsp;a powerful beast of the spiritual realm... in the process calling forth a few dozens of similar\u0026nbsp;beings... Yokai's and such alike, binding them to a fate quite similar to mine.\"\n\n\"So... that handler pact... would kind of make you into... a kind of guardian spirit?\"\n\n\"Well... I guess that's one way to put it...?\"\n\nEagerly stepping closer to the beast, putting her hands on its neck she pleaded: \"Then please... come with me...! I need your strength... your courage. After what happened today... it's the only thing able to give any meaning to my life!\"\n\nLooking at the girl in utter disbelief... the Yokai was treated to a yet even bigger surprise... as the chains, binding\u0026nbsp;him for so long... suddenly\u0026nbsp;shattered like glass!\n\n\"How... how did you...?\", Masaru asked in utter disbelief, looking up at Katherine\u0026nbsp;utterly astonished... which in return looked at him in surprise too... just as much as in an unbelievable\u0026nbsp;glee.\n\n\"OH-MY-GOSH...- you're so cute...!\", She shouted out delighted, picking up the little, white kitten, the former massive beast had turned into.\n\n\"Hey... careful... don't squash me... and even more important... how in the world did you do this just now?!\"\n\nPetting the little\u0026nbsp;kitten lovingly and utterly ecstatic, she just explained, looking at the broken chains. littering the floor like thousands of shards of glass, just replying innocently: \"I don't know... all I wanted was for you to come with me... be my partner like you promised... I wanted it really-really-really bad and...\"\n\n\"Okay... okay... it's quite alright, I guess...\", The petite feline ended her torrents of words hastily, \"... you managed to break\u0026nbsp;this chains with ease... without me even having to\u0026nbsp;explain anything... that's all that matters!\"\n\n\"Okay...!\", Katherine said in a happy smile, asking as she turned around to face the cave's entrance, \"So... guess we have to return to 'my birthday party' now, huh?\"\n\n\"Well... I guess so...?\"\n\n\"God damn it... daddy is gonna KILL ME!\", The freshly crowned handler exclaimed in realization, \"I've been surely gone for... it almost felt like a whole day!\"\n\n\"I think I can handle your father trying to kill you... but getting you back to civilization\u0026nbsp;would indeed be a rather important priority...!\"\n\n\"Really... you could do that? You think you\u0026nbsp;could put my father in his place..?!\"\n\n\"Oh... that would be one of my easiest accomplishments...\", The feline said in a devilish grin... before explaining, after aimlessly looking into the distance\u0026nbsp;for quite a while,\u0026nbsp;\"HURRY...! Run straight\u0026nbsp;out of the cave! don't turn, just run straight... if you hurry you should be able to cross paths with a rescue helicopter, searching for you, just in time!\"\n\nKatherine was surprised by this sudden insistent command... yet followed it immediately and with haste.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nLike Masaru had\u0026nbsp;predicted, only but ten minutes later, she could hear the loud flapping noise of a\u0026nbsp;helicopter's rotor blades.\n\nWaving one arm\u0026nbsp;enthusiastically, while holding the little, white kitten close to her with the other, she luckily\u0026nbsp;managed to get the pilot's attention, finally picking her up, after hours over hours in the freezing\u0026nbsp;cold weather.\n\nFinally having his daughter back... her father's first impulse was to beat her up once more... for making him look like a fool, once again disobeying his orders and on top of that bringing some mangy, little cat in his house! Yet... as he stepped closer to her, to deal his 'proper punishment'... one glare of the little kitten was enough to suddenly change his demeanor.\n\n\"ER-HUM... well... I guess the cat can stay!\", Her father suddenly had changed his mind, almost appearing intimidated by the little cat, \"But you'll take care of hit! Just as much as you'll pay for its food and any other expenses off of\u0026nbsp;your own allowance!\"\n\n\"WOW... how did you do that?\", Katherine asked the little kitten in disbelieve, as her father finally had left.\n\n\"Let's say... I had a little talk with him.\"\n\nHis master did not quite seem satisfied with this explanation... yet up to this day, she still hadn't even gotten one\u0026nbsp;word out of Masaru... about the one night -right after returning home -\u0026nbsp;he took his true form and scared her father witless, good and proper!\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nA few weeks passed after this incident, Masaru and Katherine getting to know each other better and especially the Yokai explaining her more about his abilities and the abilities a handler could cultivate when properly bonded with his partner.\n\nSwapping blood thereby\u0026nbsp;was not too big a problem, as the young woman was not really afraid of pain\u0026nbsp;and quick cut of the Hakutaku's deadly claws later, they were done with this part of bonding. Using Masaru's ability of foresight, to help her father's business out a little, she could easily sweet talk him\u0026nbsp;into paying for\u0026nbsp;a proper catalyst for her...\u0026nbsp;whereas she had found herself an ancient fighting fan, once property\u0026nbsp;of a rich aristocrat, reinforced with steel blades... the decorative tips on its top, proofing to be tiny, sharp blades.\n\nPlayfully fanning\u0026nbsp;herself some air, with the newly dedicated catalyst, she finally asked, closing the fan in a snappy motion, what the Yokai had feared for the longest time, as he told her months later: \"So... you told me there would only be one part remaining to finalize our pact, right?\"\n\n\"Well... ehr... yeah, sure... but I'm not sure if...\"\n\n\"If what? If I want that?
