#120 of Short Stories

A wolf considers his meal options.

~ The previous eight months had been hard on the wolf. At a tempo he'd never prepared for he managed to bury a father and mourn over his mother's ashes. The weight and absences of it all were creeping into his realization, standing in a kitchen as alone as he felt.
~ Modestly helpful, the oven rang out with a wobbling chime to inform him that the preheat cycle was completed. Opening the freezer, Gerald stared into the hazy mist of cold and ice.
~ He placed a frozen pizza on the counter, his gaze never dropping from the icebox.
~ "There's no one left to judge me."
~ He set a second frozen pizza box on top of the first.
