While out for drinks with your new boss, you jokingly ask her why NASA hasn't explored the ocean with its resources. She turns pale and leans in close, then whispers, "We have. Why do you think we want to leave the planet so badly?"Go fave the origional authors work at the link below if you enjoy! We did see! This is why we now flee!"
And her voice, it was trembling with fear.

Well, I was still so green, and my spirit was keen.
You know me, it is still in my blood,
so I went on this trip, on a research ship,
to sample some 'deep sea floor mud'.

And I should have well known, with those warnings she'd sown,
but I had to see \\*it\\* for myself:
I climbed into the tub of that deep-sea-sub
and went down past the cliff of the shelf.

Where the continent ends, and the earth-crust bends,
there's an abyss as dark as my soul,
and like ethereal spears, my searchlights pierce
into water as pitch black as coal.

My hull creaks and cracks, as the pressure attacks,
metal cries, like the sirens of lore.
Oozing water forms tears - all alone with my fears -
as I sink to the abysmal floor.

Yet the vessel still holds, as the scene unfolds.
Light fingers lastly touch ground,
touching structures of lore, ruins, castles, galore,
as if ancient's Atlantis they'd found.

Although, to my glances, as my vessel advances,
so alien this city is made,
not for me nor for you, nor for any land crew.
Who might could have built this estate?

I still drift through the scene, eerily quiet, serene,
can't ever spot traces of life.
Not one living thing, my sensors could ping,
cold dead and abandoned, this hive.

Some mud I should bring, so I descent my thing
to fulfill both my mission and quest,
but as I touch ground, there's a crunching sound.
I freeze! My heart hurts in my chest.

Blind smoke and bubbles, collapsing rubble,
boulders crash down on my ship.
Bury me, loud! The lights go out,
then silence: I hear water drip.

As deep down I am trapped, how is sanity kept?
Darkness reclaims all its powers,
and my eyes play games as I whisper names.
The seconds turn slowly to hours.

At first I deny, think my eyes betray
me, as some light thing, I see.
An angel? A spectre? I seek a conjecture,
as to who might be looking for me.

She floats like a fish, kinda stingray-ish,
yet has both arms, hands, and a face.
Also, she's quite thin, translucent her skin,
none yet had described such a race.

Thin lines of dim light, they trace down her side,
and pulse-like those bright shimmers flow,
her feminine curve is what I observe,
her belly is tight filled with roe.

Touching glass with my brow, as I climb to the bow,
right now, I feel oddly alive,
and her eyes look at me. Does she wants me to see?
Is there hope in this confounded dive?

Her gaze locks with mine. Her bright eyes shine.
Her thoughts pour right into my brain.
Know: Those of her kind, they talk mind to mind!
I know now, hope wasn't in vain.

Dark though, are the news, of which sharing she'll chose,
as we had been causing their fall.
Why everything's dead on the deep sea bed?
Pollution and waste doomed them all!

Last of her kind, she sends to my mind,
she is, but no reason to weep.
For the next generation grows with her gestation
to carry on life in the deep.

Of thousands eggs laid, if only one staid,
it'd share all her mem'ries and lore,
for their egg's DNA, captures each word they say,
each feeling, sensation and more.

Birth though, has a price, costs a sacrifice,
she shares with my dumbdazzled brain,
as to set those eggs free, ripped apart she must be,
lest they starve and it all was in vain.

Now her time draws near, she is stricken with fear,
and scared, doing \\*it\\* all alone.
In exchange for the deed, she would soon have me free'd,
dug out from this cursed pile of stone.

Shocked and frightened I am, of her master plan,
yet a choice to deny I have not,
as I am too afraid in my liable state,
reluctant, I agree to her plot.

With her shape shining bright, there is just enough light
so I find my way inside my ship.
There's no time to get bored, power must be restored
in its bowels where water drops drip.

Is she using her shoulders, to move all these boulders?
Or are dark unseen forces at play?
The sub's systems a mess, which cable? I guess,
then I curse as I short a relay.

Atlast I succeed: The shadows recede,
Controls! They all come back to life.
While my savior, tragic, has done her magic:
The passage back out is now safe!

Before I can leave, as much as I grief
over it, the damn deed must be done,
and she floats in her shine and her eyes lock with mine.
Our thoughts for once more become one.

Speaking more of that part, would now break my heart.
Love we felt, consider that fact!
It must suffice to say that I helped her lay.
Our minds remained linked through the act.

The truth which I sought, with blood it was bought:
From the sea, our waste, life bereft!
From the sea to the shore, evr'y day it kills more,
and numbered are our days left.

By the stars in the sky, our hope may lie,
not for me, since I must stay behind.
For all the eggs spilled, as my thruster screw killed,
I have hope, there are more of her kind.

Ahoi such, once more, as I leave this shore,
tomorrow, I'll set sail again.
For I cannot yet rest, until I found their nest,
and maybe, find happiness then.

"}
