#5 of The Interviews

The fifth in a series of interviews with my cast of characters. Next is Alaski Illion, daughter of the wealthy Maximillion Illion. She went to Noire Corp. to learn the value of a dollar, but is there more to her than even she knows? The conspiracy theory is growing!

Alaski opens the door to the interview room and closes it all without taking her eyes off her phone. She sits down in the chair, not showing any care for the damage to the table. The interviewer snatches her phone out of her hands. "Hey, that's my personal property."

"And you'll get this back once we're done." The canid stuffs the phone in his coat pocket where the recorder was originally kept. He takes out a pen and his notepad and flips through three-fourths of the handheld notepad. "Your full name and occupation."

"Alaski Illion, I guess I'm a secretary for Noire Corp."

"You guess?"

"Well, when the scientists kind of got killed when the old building exploded, Ishika started to train me to become a scientist."

"Have you had an interest in science?"

"Not really," Alaski twirls her red bangs with her finger. "But they are kind of short-staffed and what they do isn't real science."

"Then what is it?"

Alaski shrugs. "I dunno. As I said, I'm a secretary; I don't get that level of clearance."

"But Wulf and Aren do?"

"Aren's a guinea pig; he's kind of forced to know these things. Wulf's a security guard. He needs to know what doesn't get leaked. I'm a civilian."

The interviewer writes Alaski's opinions down. "Not just any civilian, your Maximillion Illion's daughter, a wealthy business owner that has a stake in Noire Corp. How did his daughter end up here?"

"Something about learning the value of a dollar. He wanted me to earn my own money instead of spending his."

"What sent him over the edge?"

"I bought an island that turned out to be a small country." Alaski blows her hair out of her face. "After that big stunt, he sent me here to work. I guess that was about a year ago." The husky canid pulls out the ponytail holding her red hair together. She straightens her hair out and puts it back in.

The interviewer looks at her with his mouth agape. She truly doesn't understand her value and has no control over how to spend her father's money. "Let's talk about you, shall we?"

Alaski finishes putting her hair up, flicking the ponytail behind her. "Okay, but I can't guarantee I can answer everything."

"And why's that?"

"Most of my earlier memories are gone. I can't remember anything past twelve years ago"

"Interesting. Do you know what happened around that time?"

"I don't."

"Let me tell you then." The interviewer flips through his notepad regarding questions and notes about Alaski. "Around that time, Noire finished college and she sought your father out. Any idea why?"

"He invested in her company, I guess that's when Noire Corp. started."

"Do you know what her first invention was? I'll tell you. No one knows, but everyone suspects cloning or robots."

"Everyone or just you?"

The interviewer chuckles and closes his notepad. "Okay, just me, but I have a good reason and you just confirmed it." Alaski tilts her head as the interviewer scoots his chair closer. "What's your earliest memory?"

"Waking up in a hospital. My dad and the doctors never told me the specifics of what happened."

"Let me tell you what you were doing before." The interviewer opens his notepad again and flips to the end. "You were attending the same college as Ishika and Noire. You were interested in some science because you shared a class with them."

Alaski shrugs and looks around the room. "Okay? So I attended the same class as them. Doesn't mean anything."

"A student died during their final exam. They were presenting a high-end laser to cut a diamond. The experiment backfired, the machine broke, and it killed a student. Now, the whole thing was quieted down, but I think that's because if it was found out a billionaire's daughter was killed, it would be more scandalous."

"You think I was killed? But I'm right here."

"Exactly. How are you still alive?"

Alaski scoffs. "Well, you should be a MeTuber with your conspiracy theories, but I think we're done here. My phone." Alaski extends her open hand to the fox canid.

The interviewer smirks and reaches for Alaski's phone in his pocket. He places it in Alaski's hand but pulls her close to his face. "Who are you really, Alaski?"

Alaski's eyes widen and she backs away, stumbling over the broken table. She catches her balance and makes her way to the exit. She stares at the interviewer who just stares back at her. Alaski opens and closes the door slowly and quietly, leaving the room.

The interviewer folds his notepad and writes on the back of the last page. "Alaski Illion, Alaskan husky canid. Secretary turned scientist of Noire Corp. She has no memory prior to twelve years ago. Is she the student who was killed by Noire and Ishika back in college? If so, how is she alive now? Are the rumors about clones or robots from Illion Enterprises true? Did Noire help because of guilt?" The interviewer closes his notepad and stares at the door. "What a fun company this is, but there are still too many questions that need answering."
