I don't do free verse often, so I decided to speak about something deeply personal to me. It took me about 90 seconds of typing whatever came to mind to construct this, so forgive any poor quality. This poem's theme is likely easily relatable, but it stems from my youth. I'm a Christian, but I do not go to church. This poem explains, in metaphor, why that is, and the results of my poor experiences with other Christians, who, despite all of their supposed values, judge me not by my heart but by my outward appearance, quiet nature, or anything else that's not my heart...","content":"Alone Among The Monsters\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nBy Mantrid Brizon\n\n(08/20/2020)\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAlone I sit in this dank pit,\n\nBut it wasn't always so,\n\nLong ago I once belonged,\n\nBut with age came awareness,\n\nAnd with awareness came neglect,\n\nFrom those whom I never truly belonged,\n\nAnd with the passage of time,\n\nIt has become immemorial,\n\nAs all I see is the black abyss,\n\nBut I am not alone,\n\nI am surrounded by the monsters,\n\nThe vicious beasts of the wood,\n\nWho lurk in the dark,\n\nThey embrace me with clawed hands,\n\nI look back and see their smiles,\n\nGlistening needles beneath crimson stones,\n\nAnd though they smile and whisper sweet words,\n\nI know that I shouldn't trust them,\n\nAnd so I feign my comfort,\n\nBecause I am no longer welcome amongst you,\n\nI walk between the worlds of angels and demons,\n\nAnd only the monsters seek to befriend me,\n\nLo, I cavort with the beasts,\n\nThough I'd rather not,\n\nUntil I feel welcomed by you,\n\nI remain forsaken,\n\nWill I forever be alone among the monsters?\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poetry","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1480531-choke.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1642767-the-beautiful-mountain.json"}}
