{"sf1_id":1697224,"sf2_id":"V1YNJk0e","title":"Samovar: a poem","author":"Altivo","words":613,"posted_at":"2021-03-19T21:32:00.000Z","tags":["Horse","M/M","No-Yiff","Poetry","Romance","musicians"],"url":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1697224-samovar-a-poem","original_url":"https://sofurry.com/s/V1YNJk0e","image_url":"https://cdn.sofurryfiles.com/submissions/thumbnails/7c/f9/7cf9964f-0e74-4704-88f7-95f394194366","description":"Samovar, a poem, with no apologies to Sir Walter Scott.\n(copyright 2020 by Altivo Overo)\nAudio version available, narrated by KhakiDoggy on \"The Voice of Dog\" podcast: http://thevoice.dog/","content":" **Samovar**\n\n_A poem by Altivo Overo_\n\n_(with no apologies to Sir Walter Scott)_\n\nO bold Samovar galloped into the West,\n\nThrough all the wide country, that steed was the best\n\nAt brawling, at boozing, at schmoozing the mares,\n\nEven while he avoided commitments and snares.\n\nA bodhrán he carried, 'twas strapped by his side,\n\nAll painted and polished and covered in hide.\n\nA flute and a tipper were tucked down inside.\n\nTo fill out the style of this musical ride,\n\nHe wore a cocked hat, and 'twas green as the grass;\n\nMane and tail black as coal and they sparkled like glass.\n\nSam rounded the lake and pulled up at the gate\n\nOf old Netherby's Pasture and Bar but too late.\n\nFor the filly he fancied had agreed to a mate\n\nAnd the nuptials expected now to celebrate.\n\nHe looked round the gathered herd, cracking a smile,\n\nSaying \"I'd better join you, at least for a while.\n\nFor though I've lost out in the courting I'll stay\n\nAnd join in the merriment just for a day.\"\n\nFair Eleanor stood amid flowers and hay.\n\nAs she smiled at Sam's joke, she was seeking a way\n\nTo avoid any fight for her favor that might\n\nCause injury to her intended and fright\n\nOn her friends who had gathered that day for to see\n\nHer engagement and marriage to bold young McGee.\n\nNow Mac stood beside her while sharing her glee\n\nAt the wedding and party they hoped soon to see.\n\n\"Well met, Samovar,\" he proclaimed with a bow.\n\n\"No hard feelings, I hope, come between us just now.\"\n\nMac flourished his hat, but no weapons he had.\n\nAnd Samovar's temper was known to be bad.\n\nBut Sam nodded slyly. \"I declare I'm not mad,\"\n\nHe announced, \"You have won, I admit, and I'm sad.\n\nJust give me a cup and I'll offer a toast\n\nTo your happiness now.\" Or that was his boast.\n\nSo McGee filled a cup with the sweetest red wine\n\nAnd gave it to Sam with his eyes all ashine.\n\nSam gave a light nicker and tossed back the wine;\n\nThen he threw it to the ground, said \"I'll not cross that line.\n\nBut let's have a dance for to honor the bride\n\nAnd her brave life companion who now stands by her side.\"\n\nHe pulled out his whistle and started a tune\n\nThat they all might join in by the light of the moon.\n\nThen Eleanor's brother, a lively young colt,\n\nSaid \"I'll just get my fiddle,\" and took off in a bolt.\n\nSam looked after him, smiling, and nodded his head.\n\nHe was thinking whom he might bring home to his bed.\n\nYoung Cedric returned with his fiddle and bow\n\nTo stand by braw Sam with his face all aglow.\n\nThey joined in and merrily the tune it did go.\n\nThe herd soon were dancing and cheering you know.\n\nThe bride and the groom swung around the grand floor\n\nForgetting the cares and the worry they bore.\n\nMore musicians joined in and a shindig began\n\nWhile Cedric and Sam, to the front gate they ran.\n\nThey hoofed down the road at full tilt, hand in hand,\n\nWhen came cries of shock from behind with the band.\n\nBoth laughed o'er their shoulders and turned for a while\n\nThen kissed as a couple and shared a big smile.\n\nSam shouted to Eleanor, \"You've found out today,\n\nThe truth of it all is the fact that we're gay!\"\n\nO bold Samovar galloped out of the West.\n\nIn all the wide country his mate was the best:\n\nYoung Cedric was handsome and bright as the sun.\n\nSo happy they were joined together as one.\n\n  \n  \n\n"}
