And when  \nthey found out that at least two dragons were living within this cove, Alice  \nhad the crazy idea to take their camera and try to film them themselves.  \nBut dragons were still not the most understood in their behavior, and  \nwhile it's been suggested that dragons are usually quite passive, nothing  \nconclusive had been drawn about it. And despite the sorts of discoveries  \nthey could make in a dragon's home, Daniel could think of a hundred ways  \nthis could go horribly wrong. Its entrance yawned  \nhigher and wider around them until they stood at its edge, staring into the  \ndarkness within. They both paused and Alice took the time to start her  \ncamera up.  \n\"Alright, we're in the dragon's nest now,\" she whispered into the  \nmic. \"At least two dragons are known to live within here, possibly a third  \none as well. The two are confirmed to be female water dragons, but we're  \nnot quite sure on the third one yet. We're just going to go inside and see  \nhow they act in private.\"  \nDaniel took in a nervous gulp as they headed inside the cave, looking  \ndown to watch where he was stepping. There was just enough light from  \noutside for him to see how the interior looked. The cave was large and  \nmostly empty, with just some rock formations providing just enough cover  \nfor them around the edges. At the center, though, was a large, raised slab of  \nrock, covered in moss and leaves like a large bed.  \nWhat was even more interesting than the bed, though, was the large  \nblue dragoness lying atop it. Alice and Daniel both sneaked around the  \nedges to find a good angle to record from, keeping their heads down to  \nlook just over the line of rock before them. They soon found a good spot  \non the far side of the cave, taking cover behind a line of rocks and  \nrecording the dragoness from a good angle.  \nOnly there were actually two dragonesses there, the other a deep  \nblack that made her blend in with the darkness for a long while. They both  \nlay curled up around each other, both sleeping peacefully side-by-side. The  \nblack dragoness was quite big, being well larger than a horse. She had  \nseveral purple frills and crests along her body, with a long frill running  \ndown her spine that appeared to end in sharp points. Two ivory horns sat  \natop her head and her chest and belly scales had a silver color that made  \nthem stand out from the rest of her black scales. From what they could see  \nat a distance, she was quite robust and had a lot of muscle on her as well.  \nThe other dragoness was noticeably smaller and more sleek, not as  \nmuch muscle on her and not having any horns like the black one did, or  \nany visible ears either, and her fins were much smaller as well. But her tail  \nfin was much wider and her crests were at least twice the size of the black  \none's. Her belly was a pure, pearl white and the way her scales glittered in  \nthe light reminded Daniel of the colors of a coral reef.  \n\"Fascinating,\" Alice whispered, half to Daniel, half into her mic. \"It's  \nnot every day you get to be this close to a dragon, let a lone two of them.\"  \nDaniel gave a nod and looked between the two, trying to use what he  \nknew of dragons to decipher what each of them was.  \n\"That black one looks rather strong,\" he said, pointing towards her.  \n\"From those muscles and fins, I'm guessing she's much more suited for  \ndeep water swimming. And as for the other...\" He pointed over to the blue  \ndragoness now, \"She's much more slim and has brighter colors. Guessing  \nshe's a shallow-water dragoness.\"  \nAlice looked over at him and smiled and Daniel felt his heart skip a  \nbeat, and he couldn't help but smile back. And the smallest was closer in appearance to the blue  \ndragoness with a more teal coloration to him. The gold and black  \nhatchlings both yipped and squeaked up at the other dragons while the teal  \nhatchling went over to the blue's side, huddling up under her wing. The  \nblack drake lowered his head and a fourth hatchling joined them, pure  \nblack in color but with blue wings and brilliant orange eyes. He held a  \nbranch of grapes in his maw and he waddled over to the teal hatchling,  \nsetting it down before him.  \nAnother set of wingbeats was soon heard and Daniel looked to see  \nanother dragon touch down at the cave's mouth, stepping inside. She came over to the gold drake and black dragoness, nuzzling  \nthem both before taking a spot by them.  \nDaniel fidgeted beside Alice. \"There's a lot of dragon activity here  \nnow. Much more than I'm comfortable with staying around.\"  \nAlice gave a nod, pulling her camera back and turning around to start  \nheading out. \"Yeah, agreed. Let's get out of here before we-eek!\"  \nDaniel looked and saw a startled look on her face. He turned to see  \nwhere she was looking and jumped when he saw a pair of purple eyes  \nstaring right at him. His back bumped against some of the rocks they were  \ntaking cover behind and he froze. Somehow, one of the hatchlings had  \nmanaged to sneak up on them and was now sitting on the rocks behind  \nthem, staring curiously between the two of them.  \nFor a moment Daniel wondered if the black hatchling somehow  \nteleported, but looking closer, he could see that she was a different one  \nentirely that was just similar in appearance. But she was smaller than the  \nother, a bit more pudgy, her snout was shorter and thicker, and her frills  \nhad a more round and puffy shape to them. She cocked her head at them  \nand stayed where she was, looking back and forth between them.  \nDaniel remained frozen where he was. On the one hand, the hatchling  \nwas adorable and didn't seem alarmed by their appearance at all. He shivered as her purring breaths rolled over  \nhis fingers, smiling brightly up at her.  \nThe hatchling perked her ears and chirped, her frills flapping rapidly.  \nShe lifted her head up and let out several loud, calling mews, loud enough  \nfor the others to hear.  \n\"Hu-man!\" she called out. \"Hu-man!\"  \nBoth Daniel and Alice ducked down and froze, Daniel's blood  \nrunning cold. She was giving them away! He looked to Alice and saw an  \nequally panicked look on her face. Should they stay and hope they remain  \nhidden, or try and make a run for it? Or would that trigger the dragons  \ncoming after them?  \nHe could hear thundering footsteps behind him before he could think  \nof anything, and when he looked behind him, the golden dragon was  \nstanding straight over them, looking at them with a neutral gaze. Behind  \nhim all the other dragons had paused what they were doing and were  \nlooking straight at them, their faces ranging from curious to annoyed.  \nDaniel's heart nearly stopped - if getting the attention of everyone at a  \nparty was anxiety-inducing, then getting the attention of every dragon in a  \nsmall cave was even worse.  \nThe gold drake looked between them for a long moment, then looked  \nup at the hatchling and smiled at her. He gave her a lick to her head that  \nmade her squeak in delight, then brought his head below her. She let out a  \nhappy chirp and climbed up onto his head, taking a spot between his horns  \nand letting out a happy scree. The drake smiled up at her and then brought  \nhis head over to them, giving both of them a forceful nudge that nearly  \nknocked them onto their butts.  \n\"Time to go,\" he said.  \nDaniel glanced over to Alice and she back to him, and they both  \nnodded up to the dragon and pulled themselves onto their feet without  \nanother word, grabbing their camera and heading towards the cave exit.  \nDaniel occasionally took a few glances back, seeing the gold dragon bring  \nthe little hatchling over to the others. Most of the dragons had gone back to  \ntheir business, only the glare of the black dragoness lingering on them for  \na while before her attention turned back to her family. They were about to  \nstep out of the cave when Daniel turned back just in time to see the black  \nhatchling bubble loudly towards them and wave with her wing.  \n\"Bye-bye, hu-man!\"  \nEven with the frightening situation, Daniel couldn't help but feel his  \nheart warm at the hatchling's bubbly voice.
