# The Science of Cake

_**Science is a great enemy  
That I have to fight every day.  
Though with age I become wiser,  
Science grows stronger anyway.**_

_**Mysteries get demystified,  
Chaos is then categorized.  
Anything that was once by chance  
Awesome is now simply downsized**_

_**Into the rational and logical---  
Two things that one can't live without---  
Yet when the mystery is gone,  
There'd be nothing to think about!**_

_**Wonder, awe---bliss in confusion---  
I'd rather just admire stuff  
Than spending my entire life  
Studying everything! Enough!**_

_**The day that I suffered the most  
Was when I argued with science.  
Standing up for God, love, and dreams  
Was my mission, yet I grew tense.**_

_**"How can you be so straightforward?"  
I said, "You live within a box!  
If God needs to be proven then  
So do dreams and love!" He talks**_

_**Of the need for provable facts,  
"We must have solid evidence!  
How can you deny such logic?  
How can you deny my science?**_

_**I believe love is---simply put---  
Just a chemical reaction.  
Dreams come from rapid-eye-movement  
Within the brain. It's not fiction!**_

_**And God, well, where the hell is He?  
Can't you see that He is not here?  
Nothing solid---no facts nor truth-  
You have on Him! Goodbye, my dear!"**_

_**Ever since then have I felt lost,  
Nothing I pondered on felt sweet.  
Is that all love had really been?  
Have my dreams just met their defeat?**_

_**Has my God given up on me?  
Praying to Him gets no answers.  
This didn't feel right---nothing did!  
Does this mean I was never her's?**_

_**"Just a chemical reaction."  
Said that smart, science-crazed lab rat  
That's all love really is? Were my  
Feelings for that vixen just that?**_

_**What once ruled my primal nature  
Was a chemical reaction,  
And nothing more! That's all love is?!  
That is the case! It's not fiction!**_

_**How can something that feels so strong  
Come from something that's so little?  
Something that small couldn't be great.  
Love is not real! It's no riddle!**_

_**Makes me sad, realizing it's  
Just a chemical reaction.  
So then everybody was wrong!  
Love is not real---it is fiction!**_

_**All this talk about how love's real  
Came from the uninformed masses.  
No longer will believe them  
Since my knowledge now surpasses.**_

_**No longer will memories of  
Her warm fur tame my heavy heart.  
What once was had never been---no  
Longer will it tear me apart.**_

_**Though I miss those old feelings of  
Believing I was in love, I  
Know better now; they were all wrong.  
The cake they serve me is a lie!**_

This was inspired by a conversation I had with an atheist a few weeks ago that left me feeling pretty down.
