I try to not wear my heart on my sleeve often, but I had to just get this out there.","content":"It's been a year since I saw you last.\n\nHow has time gone by so fast?\n\nA year to the day,\n\nYou were no longer OK.\n\nThere hasn't been a day that's gone by\n\nWhere I've looked over and expected you by my side.\n\nYour cage, now clean, still sits upon its pedestal\n\nCold and empty, only a hollow shell.\n\nI told myself I could take another, maybe\n\nA few months at most, I said,\n\nHalf a year, we'll see.\n\nA year to the day, your place remains vacant.\n\nThe desire impatient, yet oddly complacent.\n\n\"Another would do,\" says a part,\n\nBut only a fraction of my heart.\n\nWhoever it is could never be claimant,\n\nAt best, even with perfection, they'd be only adjacent.\n\nThe only things that's odd, I find,\n\nIs still how fresh you are in my mind.\n\nSo I sit here, a year to the day,\n\nStill I wonder, could I have kept death at bay?\n\nMy mind is restless, more questions linger on.\n\nI suppose in my solitude I have a job to do\n\nTo carry your memories since now you've gone.\n\nAnd to still say \"I love you.\"\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poetry","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/976366-transgressions.json"}}
