Here's one I think some of you might like.","content":"A Familiar Fantasy\n\nBy Ken Anderson , 12 October, 2018\n\nWhen I retire, often late at night,\n\nWhen the drink and the smoke have awakened my sight,\n\nI close my eyes, and clear my mind,\n\nAnd just drift away, leaving earth behind.\n\nAnd as I pace, in my silent room,\n\nI journey far beyond the moon.\n\nI see all the stars, and I've given them names,\n\nAnd imagine that somehow I'll get there one day.\n\nAnd then it appears, a desert so deep,\n\nTwo suns shine upon me; the sand burns my feet.\n\nThis place is familiar; I've been here before.\n\nThe sand, a deep scarlet, the color of war.\n\nAnd as I go deeper, my room disappears.\n\nMy eyes are still closed, but somehow I hear.\n\nThe voices are faint, but I follow the sound.\n\nAnd watch in awe as it rises from the ground.\n\nA city of sand, of steel, and stone.\n\nI stand at the gates of a city I've known.\n\nSurrounded by peoples so unlike our own.\n\nA figure approaches, in patched leather clothes,\n\nRed scales, and a dragon- like snout for a nose.\n\nHe flashes a smile, his fangs are all stained.\n\nHe says \"I'd always wondered if we'd meet again. \"\n\nHe extended an arm and clasped onto my own,\n\nAnd said,\n\n\"it's good to see you home. \"\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poetry, both old and new","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1925267-they-called-him-fire.json"}}
