# The Empty Plate

This is an old poem I wrote back in 2017 for a poetry contest. I didn't come close to winning I'm pretty sure and I've never really posted this before so I thought I would now. It's from a time that predates pretty much everything I've posted here before but I think while basic it's still okay, I'd like to think my stuff now is better but it's good to also reflect on the writings and stuff of the past. Originally written in 2017 and originally posted end of August 2021.

An Empty Platter
A Room Full of Nonsense
Political Chatter
The chatter helps nothing
A splatter of food is all that really matters
Land that we used to use to grow our own food
No longer even matters
Acquired by people who's intentions cannot be told
There are no seeds that can be scattered
No food left that can be grown in every home
Hunger just seems to be a problem saved for latter
Many local stores and farms can barely hone their craft
Doomed and tattered by big business and consumer indifference
People try and charities help but the hungry are still shown
Poverty and hunger are both part of the same problem batter
In the end the world still has an abundance of empty platters
