His eyes widened with each one he sent through the works.\n\n_My..._\n\n_Father..._\n\n_Killed..._\n\n_Liki's..._\n\n_Parents..._\n\nHis muzzle mouthed the words as he thought them over and over again. The Shadow Creature was talking, but Blackpaw heard nothing. He could only hear those five words running\u0026nbsp;around his mind as he tried to stop them from becoming a sentence.\n\nHe failed. In the end it took root and\u0026nbsp;was the only thing he could keep thinking.\n\n_My\u0026nbsp;father killed Liki's parents..._\n\n_My father killed Liki's parents..._\n\nHis breathing became labored. His legs shook uncontrollably\u0026nbsp;while he tried to think against the thought. The Shadow Creature asked something, looking worried, but\u0026nbsp;Blackpaw\u0026nbsp;was\u0026nbsp;busy having\u0026nbsp;a mental fight with himself.\n\n_No! My father was on the run from the Gray Circle! He was a friend of a Shadow! Why would he kill Liki's parents!?_\n\nBut Blackpaw didn't know that for sure. There was four years seperating his age and Liki's, anything could have happened during then, including his father killing Liki's parents.\u0026nbsp;As far as he knew now, everything his father had told him had been a lie...everything had been a lie...\n\nBlackpaw choked on his breath, falling to his knees on the ground. He was hyperventilating. He gripped his throat tightly, trying to breath. The Shadow Creature was right beside him, shouting something the Fangren still could not hear. His vision began to blur as he stared at the ground with his muzzle open and trying to take in\u0026nbsp;air, but\u0026nbsp;his throat refused to open up.\n\nHe felt himself slipping away from his mind as he still heard his thoughts screaming at him.\n\n_My father killed Liki's parents!!_\n\n_Everything...everything I knew was a lie!_\n\n_I'm...the son...of a killer..._\n\nHe hit the ground with a final, sorrowful thought, _I don't...deserve...Liki..._\n\nHe blacked out.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\"Where is that damn thing?\" Liki growled, walking along the\u0026nbsp;bottom of the hill shifting through brush and bushes for the lost kunai.\n\n\"I can't find it. Damn I need all of them. I\u0026nbsp;only have fourteen others.\"\n\n_\"LIKI!!!\"\u0026nbsp;_\n\nThe Fangren spun toward the voice, his own again, to see Blackpaw hit the ground at the top the hill.\n\n\"Blackpaw!\" Liki sprinted up the hill and hit the ground beside his student. He\u0026nbsp;thought at first that\u0026nbsp;he had fallen in exhaustion, but as\u0026nbsp;he propped his student up and the white wolf didn't respond, he knew it was much worse.\n\n\"Wake up Blackpaw!\"\u0026nbsp;Liki shook him, his hands started glowing green. He knew only little healing druidic magic,\u0026nbsp;something\u0026nbsp;to recover scrapes and brushes, but he doubted it would fix this. Blackpaw\u0026nbsp;was not breathing, though his muzzle hung open and his tongue lavished in some kind of wierd dance at the back of his\u0026nbsp;mouth.\n\nHe\u0026nbsp;placed his muzzle on Blackpaw's and breathed into\u0026nbsp;it, but the breath did not\u0026nbsp;go no farther then\u0026nbsp;his student's mouth.\n\nThe\u0026nbsp;frantic wolf cursed, \"His throats tightened, he can't breath!\"\n\n\"Move aside.\" A sudden voice told him sternly. Liki spun to see a\u0026nbsp;Fangren about his age. His fur was pure black and his eyes were red, but he wore\u0026nbsp;nothing but\u0026nbsp;vines of leaves and and a\u0026nbsp;lioncloth. Liki thought\u0026nbsp;the Fangren might be a Feral at first.\u0026nbsp;The way he looked at Blackpaw was calm and cool.\n\n\"He's hyperventilating.\" The Fangren pushed\u0026nbsp;Liki\u0026nbsp;away from Blackpaw and took charge. He propped Blackpaw into a sitting position.\n\n\"Hold him.\" He stated calmly.\n\nLiki moved quickly to obey, holding Blackpaw in that sitting position. The young boy's muzzle still hung open and he seemed to be shocked. His eyes moved rapidly underneath his eyelids. Liki whimpered as\u0026nbsp;the stranger aside him clapped his hands once and they started glowing an incrediably bright green, much brighter then Liki's own.\n\n_He's a Druid._ Liki realized.\n\nThe\u0026nbsp;Fangren placed one hand on Blackpaw's chest, then his other on\u0026nbsp;the boy's\u0026nbsp;back and closed his eyes. Liki waited for Blackpaw to wake up, but so many moments passed and it seemed like Blackpaw's eyes were moving slower and slower. The druid's magic wasn't doing anything at all.\n\n\"Do something!\" Liki shouted.\n\nThe black Fangren growled lowly, \"Almost...\" His hands left Blackpaw's body a bit.\n\n...\n\n\"Now!\"\n\nThe druid's hands struck Blackpaw's chest and back hard at the same time. Blackpaw's eyes snapped open and he gasped loudly, followed by\u0026nbsp;coughing violently as he clutched his chest where he had been hit.\n\n\"When\u0026nbsp;you can't get air to go in, you force the air already in to go out...\" The black Fangren whispered\u0026nbsp;and rose\u0026nbsp;while Liki hugged Blackpaw tightly.\n\n\"Thank you.\" Liki whispered. He opened his\u0026nbsp;eyes after Blackpaw finally returned the hug.\u0026nbsp;The black\u0026nbsp;Fangren was gone.\n\n\"Didn't even get his name.\" Liki mumbled.\n\n\"Liki...\" Blackpaw whimpered, and the older wolf noticed that his student was crying.\n\n\"You're okay Blackpaw, just relax. You're okay now.\" Liki told him and rubbed his hands along Blackpaw's back.\n\n\"I'm sorry...\"\n\n\"There's nothing to be sorry about Blackpaw. You didn't do anything wrong. You're fine.\"\n\n\"No...Liki...\" Blackpaw shuddered and broke into a crying sob, unable to say any other words.\n\nLiki picked up Blackpaw in his arms, the wolf burried his face into Liki's chest and dampened the leather as his Master carried him away from the hill and back into town.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nBlackpaw cried to himself in Liki's arms. The one Beast who was the most victim was the one giving him comfort. It hurt to think that if Liki knew...\n\n_I don't deserve him...I don't deserve for him to care about me like this..._\n\n_My father killed his family...destroyed it, then tried to make up for it by giving him me..._\n\n_Why dad? Why did you do it? Why did you kill them? Why did you keep me\u0026nbsp;like this then thrust me away so readily at Liki?_\n\n_Just_ what _had happened that caused this?_\n\nBlackpaw took a shuddering breath\u0026nbsp;and he heard the sounds of Hillside around him, but he kept his muzzle buried in Liki's armor. He hated\u0026nbsp;this...hated how it seemed everything was happening and he had no ability to change it or give his opinion...he hated his father...\n\n_What would Liki think if I told him...would he hate me? I'm the son of the Beast that killed his parents..._\n\nThe tears multiplied, _Of course he'll hate me...Liki wouldn't want to associate\u0026nbsp;with anything related to\u0026nbsp;the destroyer of his life..._\n\n_\"Destroyer?\"_ His father's\u0026nbsp;voice rumbled through his head. Though he knew it was the Shadow Creature talking to him, walking\u0026nbsp;beside Liki who could not see or hear him, he growled lowly at his father's voice.\n\n_Go away...you've only made things worse..._\n\n_\"Blackpaw,\u0026nbsp;you were an accident...\"_\n\n_What?_\n\n_\"You were an accident, your parents never meant to bring you into the world with this stuff happening around you...before Steve met Liki's\u0026nbsp;Master Uriay, your life was set to live in a life of luxery in Camelot,\u0026nbsp;all provided by the Grey Circle for Steve killing Uriay and Liki and ending the last of the Shadows. But...you were an accident, your parents did not mean to have you. You had just been\u0026nbsp;born\u0026nbsp;about a week before Steve confronted Uriay.\u0026nbsp;It was_ your future _your_\u0026nbsp;_father was considering when he changed what he was doing. Would you have wanted a future given at the cost of others like that? Steve didn't think so...and your mother agreed, she had been feeling the same way...\"_\n\nBlackpaw's\u0026nbsp;sobbing\u0026nbsp;weakened a bit, just as Liki opened the door to their home. He thought of what\u0026nbsp;the Shadow Creature said, while Liki took him\u0026nbsp;to the couch of the living room\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;laid him down on the soft cushions.\n\n\"Wait here Blackpaw, I'll make us something to eat...you just relax...\"\n\nBlackpaw nodded slowly, sniffling still. Liki left the room and entered the kitchen beside it, leaving the boy and the Shadow Creature in the room alone.\n\n_So...my dad really did fell sorry?_\n\n_\"He realized that\u0026nbsp;his family's\u0026nbsp;pleasure was being derived from the suffering of others...In a way he felt sorry yes, but mostly he felt quilty.\u0026nbsp;Uriay helped\u0026nbsp;to show him just how much he was hurting others without meaning it. He showed him Liki...\"_\n\nBlackpaw remained silent, thinking hard. The Shadow Creature continued, _\"When Steve killed Liki's parents, he was not at all aware\u0026nbsp;that Liki was there, he had not seen his mother holding him to her when he killed her with a poison dart. He felt horrible when Uriay told him...he took responsibility for Liki becuase he knew he caused what Liki was now, realizing he had killed innocent Beasts who were parents just like him...who knows how many others he might have unintentionally harmed? Thinking that Liki could have been you even...He hated himself Blackpaw...He challenged the Grey Circle later on openly\u0026nbsp;and was cast out and targeted, and since then your family was on the run...It's why he gave Liki you, it's why he kept you rather then giving you to an orphanage. He had\u0026nbsp;believed one day he could teach you to live well...unfortunatly the life you knew was already horrible, you didn't want to learn to live well, you wanted to live for others. He tossed you at Liki to force you to learn to live for yourself...\"_\n\n\"Why didn't he tell me?\" Blackpaw whispered, his voice shaking a bit still but the worst of his sadness was leaving him as he was getting his explanation.\n\n_\"Would you have understood it? You hardly understand it now.\"_\n\nBlackpaw recalled his father's saying, \"Don't ask things...you don't need to know to live...\"\n\n_\"Exactly. You didn't need to know then...\"_\n\n\"Why do I need to know now?\" Blackpaw cried again, \"I hate it...\"\n\n_\"On the inside...your parent's leaving you was eating you inside out...you couldn't let go of them even when you said you had and felt you had...and if you don't tell Liki this, it'll start eating you too...\"_\n\n\"He'll hate me...\"\n\n_\"Do you really think that?\"_ The Shadow Creature asked. Blackpaw was finding comfort in his father's voice now, it felt like he was having this conversation with his real father, making amends, trying to understand him.\n\n_\"Liki has felt pain...he's felt enough of it that he tries to replace what hurts him with something that helps him and gives him love. If you tell him this...what do you think he's going to do?\"_\n\nBlackpaw thought, but he could think of nothing but Liki hating him...\n\n_\"He'll love you.\"_\n\nThe wolf\u0026nbsp;blinked, but the Shadow Creature continued, _\"Liki needs something to love...to protect...he's lost so many chances at having that something before,\u0026nbsp;he's not going to let you get away like that becuase of something that happened he had no control over...what your father did was not your fault...you are a victim just as much as him, you two should be able to support each other...\"_\n\nBlackpaw began to cry again, the words penetrating his emotions becuase he wanted it so much to be true. The Shadow Creature rose and phased through the wall of the room just as Liki came in carrying a bowl of steaming\u0026nbsp;stew. He sat on the couch beside his student's smaller frame and slowly handed him a bowl, \"Here Blackpaw, try this.\"\n\nThe white Fangren cried still but he took the bowl, staring at it's contents and seeing his reflection while his\u0026nbsp;tears dropped into the yellow colored soup. He could only see himself as the son of a\u0026nbsp;killer, someone who should be shunned and exiled. He didn't deserve Liki. Even if the Fangren did\u0026nbsp;forgive him...\u0026nbsp;\n\nA few moments of silence followed that Blackpaw just stared at the soup and Liki ate, until the older Fangren sat his bowl down on the table in front of them and whispered, \"Blackpaw...are you okay? I don't think this is exhaustion anymore...\"\n\n\"Liki...\" Blackpaw whimpered, \"My father...he...\" he couldn't bring out the rest of the words he wanted to say.\n\nHe shuddered when Liki hugged him tightly, \"Blackpaw...\"\n\nThe young wolf shook as he gasped for air again, \"He...\"\n\n\"Calm down...\" Liki told him, \"You're going to go into shock again.\"\n\nBlackpaw cried for along time, eventually trying the stew as he tried to control his breathing as Liki hugged him tightly beside him by drinking from the bowl. It tasted good, a mix of vegetables and bits of meat, the water tasted of the vegetables but was not overpowering. He smiled a moment.\n\n\"It's my Master's recipe...\" his\u0026nbsp;teacher told him when he noticed the small smile, \"A blend of tomato juice and lettuce oil and water with bits of meat and corn...\"\n\n\"It's really good...\" Blackpaw sniffled through his breathes.\n\nLiki rubbed his hands down his student's arms once, \"Feel better?\"\n\nBlackpaw nodded, \"A bit...\"\n\n\"Now...what is it you're trying to tell me?\"\n\nThe white wolf shivered again, his voice cracking,\u0026nbsp;\"Liki...my father...he...he...\"\n\n\"Just say it Blackpaw...\" Liki whispered.\n\nThe younger wolf whimpered. His master and only friend was telling him to say something that would possibly ruin that relationship. He took a deep breathe then just forced it out.\n\n\"He killed your parents!\" Blackpaw hiccuped after he said it and looked away from Liki's eyes, closing his own and dropping the bowl of stew to the ground\u0026nbsp;whiling curling\u0026nbsp;into a ball. He expected to hear it hit the ground, but it never came. He opened his right eye\u0026nbsp;a bit to see the bowl just below the spot he had been holding it, except now Liki was the one holding it.\u0026nbsp;With one hand. Liki\u0026nbsp;had leaned over the couch to catch the bowl, but he eyes never left Blackpaw's face.\u0026nbsp;Blackpaw's blue eyes met his Master's glowing ones and he couldn't look away.\n\nLiki sat back up with the bowl, and pulled Blackpaw out of his\u0026nbsp;hiding ball back to a sitting position. He put the bowl gently back\u0026nbsp;into the\u0026nbsp;white wolf's paws and said calmly, \"Who told you that?\"\n\nBlackpaw blinked, surprised and stunned. \"You're...you're not upset?\"\n\n\"Well, sure I'm upset,\" Liki told him calmly still, \"but...I can't take it out on you. That happened nine years ago, I hardly remember much about it myself and there's nothing I can do to fix it...It's not your fault...but who told you that?\"\n\n\"The voice...the voice did...\"\n\n\"Ah...\" Liki sighed and took Blackpaw's bowl away and sat it next to his own. He pulled Blackpaw toward him and laid down. Blackpaw found himself laying against Liki's chest, hearing his\u0026nbsp;Master's heart beat in his\u0026nbsp;ear, \"Tell me everything it told you.\"\n\nFor the next\u0026nbsp;thirty minutes, Blackpaw spent switching from crying\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;talking about what the Shadow Ceature had told him. His eyes\u0026nbsp;became red and sore from how much he had rubbed them while he cried, but he murred at how Liki's hands continued to pet his back throughout his explinations. Liki listened quietly, giving his companion time to ease out the feelings and what he knew.\u0026nbsp;\n\nOnce Blackpaw believed he could say no more he whimpered, \"That's all I can say...\"\n\nLiki grunted and sat up, still holding Blackpaw to him. Blackpaw suddenly felt his Master's hands on his cheeks and his\u0026nbsp;muzzle being invaded by\u0026nbsp;Liki's long tongue soon after in a kiss. He melted and moaned, feeling his small penis flooding with blood and straining his silver shorts\u0026nbsp;quickly. Liki broke the kiss shortly after\u0026nbsp;and he whimpered, but Liki's smile made his heart flutter.\n\n\"I don't hate you Blackpaw...was that what you were worried about?\"\n\nHe nodded, \"Yeah...\"\n\n\"I don't hate your dad either...\" Liki whispered.\n\nThat comment surprised the young wolf all the more, \"How can't you?\"\n\n\"One cannot judge someone on past actions...\" Liki told him, \"it is\u0026nbsp;not the actions one takes, but the goal they desire at the end. Steve's goal changed greatly when he was so close to achieving his first one...and he worked to make it happen...let me ask you something Blackpaw.\"\n\n\"Okay...\"\n\n\"Would you have rather found out about this after\u0026nbsp;growing up in a life of luxery at the cost of my life...?\"\n\n_A life of luxery? Not worrying about being hunted down...everything I\u0026nbsp;could ever want...maybe I would have been really happy...but at the cost of\u0026nbsp;others?_\n\n\"Never.\" Blackpaw responded, \"If that\u0026nbsp;happened...I think I would've been\u0026nbsp;even more upset...\"\n\n\"Do you think your father made the right choice to stop what he was doing before he got worse?\" Liki continued.\n\n_He was doing it so his loved ones could life peacefully...but realizing it was at the cost of others made him feel quilty, so he stopped...his goal was to\u0026nbsp;keep me happy, for that he left me in Liki's care...if he had killed Liki and his Master, along with all the others he's\u0026nbsp;killed above that,\u0026nbsp;I would've hated it once I had known...I wouldn't have been happy then, he dad knew that._\n\n\"Yeah...\" Blackpaw nodded, \"He stopped what he was doing...he realized it was a horrible thing to be doing, killing others for happiness...\"\n\nLiki nodded as well, and they\u0026nbsp;drew\u0026nbsp;closer together in a hug.\u0026nbsp;\n\nBlackpaw smiled, tears of happiness replacing\u0026nbsp;ones of sadness as he sniffled, \"Liki, thank you...\"\n\n\"You're welcome...little brother...\" Liki whispered and nuzzled the smaller wolf.\n\nBlackpaw felt his heart explode, and he broke down into\u0026nbsp;heavy tears again. To hear Liki call him that was just too much for Blackpaw. He couldn't believe Liki was doing this...\n\n\"Are you happy here Blackpaw?\" His Master whispered again, \"Happy here with me and as my student?\"\n\n\"I'm the happiest I've ever been!\" Blackpaw cried through his sniffling, \"I can't tell you how much I love you right now...I mean, Liki...\"\n\n\"I know Blackpaw. I know.\" Liki stood up and pulled Blackpaw up with him, \"What say we go to bed hmm? You must be tired after all this, emotionally and physically.\"\n\nHe nodded stiffly, letting Liki guide him up the stairs and into Liki's room. His Master forgave him...wasn't even angry at him or his father. A lot of things had happened the last few days, each of them feeling like\u0026nbsp;a heavy weight slammed down on his shoulders and threatening to destroy his life. Yet, here he had someone who was helping him carry that, he had someone he was related to by circumstance, someone who was trying to pull him back together for the better. It wasn't blood but...it was better in its own way.\u0026nbsp;\n\nHe looked at the ground in Liki's room a moment as his friend moved away to remove his leather armor. He gazed back up to stare as his Master removed the armor until he was naked and moved toward the bed and jumped onto it.\n\nBlackpaw stood for a long moment until Liki noticed he was still in his silver clothing, \"Something still eating you Blackpaw?\" He asked.\n\n\"A few...\" Blackpaw murmurred and took a breath, \"Liki...are you happy with...with yourself?\"\n\nLiki rose and sat up on the bed, facing his student, \"Blackpaw, I know no other life other than this one...I'm upset that Steve did what he did but...I understand _why_ he was doing it at first. He was driven by the desire to make those he cared about happy...I don't know why he attacked my parents and it seems the voice didn't tell you anything to explain why he did either...but I do know that upon seeing how he hurt me, an innocent child, by killing them, he hated himself...\"\n\nThe gray Fangren looked around the room, \"This house Blackpaw...this house was probably bought off of the money the Grey Circle gave Steve for killing Shadows...\"\n\nBlackpaw shivered, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable in the house he had for so long seen as sanctuary.\n\nHowever, Liki smiled, \"That thought gives me comfort.\"\n\n\"What?\" Blackpaw gaped.\n\n\"Blackpaw...no one is never alone...\" one of Liki's hands held his chest as he closed his eyes, \"My parents are dead yes...but they are also here with me...I may be the last Shadow alive, as your Shadow Creature has said, but the Shadows that died are with me too...thinking they are watching me, that their death could even help me in anyway, that is\u0026nbsp;a very comforting thought.\"\n\nHe reopened his glowing blue eyes and smiled to Blackpaw, \"If your father had never killed my parents...we would not be here right now...who knows what else might have been different. I wouldn't be a Shadow...I wouldn't have met you in the city...you would still be clinging onto your own parents for your life...maybe my life could have been 'normal' and\u0026nbsp;maybe yours could have been 'normal'. Perhaps we would've met each other at school and became friends anyway. I don't know.\"\n\nLiki got down on his knees on the floor so he was the same hieght as Blackpaw, and he gripped his shoulders tightly, \"What I _do_ know Blackpaw,\" he whispered, \"Is what is right in front of me...and what is in front of me is a hard future of trying to restore The Shadows...what do you see in front of you?\"\n\nBlackpaw whimpered, his lips quivering, \"I want to go with you, I want to help you.\"\n\n\"Is that becuase of your bond that you don't want to let go of? Are you trying to live for me?\" Liki asked.\n\n\"No.\" He shook his head.\n\n\"Is it becuase you think you are expected to becuase of how your father hurt me?\"\n\nBlackpaw shook his head again, \"No.\"\n\n\"What is your reason then?\"\n\nThe white wolf looked at the ground and felt fresh tears in his eyes once more, \"Because I'm the son of a killer...\"\n\nSilence followed a moment until Liki said, \"You think you don't deserve it...\"\n\nBlackpaw nodded, wipping away the tears with his arm before Liki hugged him tightly and he buried his face into his Master's shoulder and wetting the fur there with his tears.\n\n\"I want to go with you becuase it's what I want to do, becuase I'm happy when I'm with you...I can't think of anything else left for me when I feel like I'm...\"\n\n\"Someone that doesn't deserve to be happy at all?\" Liki whispered, finishing the sentence for him.\n\nBlackpaw nodded again slowly, \"I can't believe,\" he sniffled and took a breath, \"That you don't hate me...I don't understand why you're being so nice...\"\n\nLiki chuckled, \"I can't see myself being anything but nice. I can't see myself being angry at all, I can't remember ever being angry at anything.\"\n\nBlackpaw giggled through his crying a bit, \"I'm jealous.\"\n\n\"Jealous? Of what?\"\n\n\"Of your step-brother...I wish you had been my big brother...\"\n\nAnother silence followed, through which Blackpaw felt Liki begin to shake uncontrollably.\n\n\"Liki?\" He whimpered and drew back a bit to see his Master's face, which was covered with tears of his own. The older Fangren could only smile as he blinked more tears down his fur while looking at Blackpaw. The child whimpered again and returned to hugging and cuddling up to his teacher, crying as well.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nWords were failing Liki. He couldn't think of anything to say anymore. Back downstairs, when Blackpaw revealed what had been hurting him so badly, it hurt to believe it was true. The Shadow Creature\u0026nbsp;Blackpaw told him about had to be real,\u0026nbsp;it explained the voice he heard, it explained a lot about the Shadows as a living thing rather than just an element of magic.
