Shoes stamp  \nstray leaves, scale sidewalks  \nwhere once was green, flatten  \ntrails through the underbrush.  \nI search for stories outside  \nof building levels, hunting  \nfor humanity in the clawed.  \nEach sole: too sensitive to adjoin  \nthis aging earth, rough, scarred  \nlike a palm blessed with many life-  \nlines. I watch them as I walk,  \nwondering when my legs will cease  \ntheir steady intervals like a wind-  \nbeaten branch against a window,  \neying its grasping shadow  \nthe way we watch each other up  \nand down streets, saying \"excuse me\"  \nor not, brushing past in crowds  \ntight as a swarm of wildebeests.  \nBut we are no longer animals.  \nYour lines press mine in a shake,  \nsplit-second as a sting.  \nWe'll know each other by grip,  \ncurve of our lips, the depth  \nof a laugh, sincerity of goodbye.  \nAnd I may explain life  \nas a military brat, where in town  \nto order the best moo goo gai pan,  \nmy name, how long ago I outgrew  \ncounting age with these hands.  \nMay risk twisting a cute girl  \nlilting by into our conversation,  \ndeciphering the orientation  \nof your response; scrambling mine.  \nTo you I am at face value. Human.  \nEven as these hands find home  \nalong the row asdfghjkl;'  \ninhabit, my mind wandering,  \nwondering about a new skin, a new  \nway to touch, discovering  \nits illicitness like the curves  \nand imperfections of first love.  \nTo think myself other than human.  \nI am typing with these hands:  \na vignette about two wolves,  \nsame sex, almost human, fucking  \nas we do, all fur and fang and paw,  \ninstinct swirling with their breaths,  \nwith every thrust, the eventual tie,  \nall the nature I could want  \nburgeoning as fast as these fingers,  \nthese thumbs, can fly.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poems","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/1350056-admission.json"}}
