You don't have to look

underneath my shirt

to see what's in my chest --

there is only you

 

-- you who are there

where someone else should

because of that one night

I said things I didn't mean --

 

-- things I didn't mean like

'I can't be a part of you anymore,'

and 'I am done pretending,' were

just as true as the last claim --

 

there is only you

where someone else should

because that one night

I only pretended.
