He blinked a couple of times and opened his eyes, allowing himself to feel his body again.\u0026nbsp; The pain was still present, but it had diminished a great deal, apparently Sashi's poultices were indeed good at what they did.\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon grunted in response.\n\n\"It looks like this is healing nicely Ahrilon.\u0026nbsp; The meal and sleep have certainly helped.\u0026nbsp; Your exhaustion seems to have been conquered as well.\u0026nbsp; You should be ready to meet the council today.\u0026nbsp; I'll go ahead and apply the poultice again and wrap this up, but it should be healed by the week's end I should say, bless that strong, youthful body.\"\u0026nbsp; Sashi worked quickly, applying the poultice from the mortar and pestle and then wrapping Ahrilon's midsection with a fresh bandage.\n\n\"You should head outside and see if Varra is done with the venison yet.\u0026nbsp; A good breakfast won't hurt you.\"\u0026nbsp; Sashi smiled as she urged him out of bed and then began the examination on Delyc.\n\nAhrilon managed to get to his feet, stretching his worn muscles.\u0026nbsp; In doing so he felt Delyc's warm wolf seed seeping from his tail-hole.\u0026nbsp; He felt another blush rise under his fur as he quickly moved to grab a loincloth to hide the sticky, slimy mess between his butt-cheeks.\n\nDelyc grunted as Sashi poked and prodded him, Ahrilon managing to tie his loincloth securely.\u0026nbsp; He glanced at Sashi and Delyc, waiting for his mate's silent approval to leave the room.\u0026nbsp; Delyc looked uncomfortable, but the look he gave Ahrilon said he could handle it, and the smaller wolf made his way outside the hut.\n\nVarra sat at a spit, slowly turning a chunk of deer-meat over a fire-pit.\u0026nbsp; She looked up as Ahrilon emerged and grinned.\u0026nbsp; \"Feeling better?\"\n\nAhrilon nodded.\u0026nbsp; \"Yes, quite a bit.\u0026nbsp; Sashi sent me to check on breakfast...\"\n\nVarra nodded and pulled one spit from a rack off to the side of the fire.\u0026nbsp; \"This one is ready, I'll bring the other in shortly.\u0026nbsp; After you bring that in, we need some more water from the well, it's in the center of the village.\u0026nbsp; Are you well enough to walk a bit?\"\n\nAhrilon nodded and took the roasted spit from Varra, bringing it inside the hut.\u0026nbsp; He entered just in time to see the naked profile of his love arching his back, stretching after their long rest.\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon's muzzle watered, and not because of the roasted venison.\n\nDelyc looked over and saw the predatory gaze in his mate's eyes, grinning.\u0026nbsp; He stretched again, turning a bit to perfectly accentuate his slightly bulged sheath.\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon set the spit on a platter in the middle of the table and walked up to Delyc, pulling his muzzle into a fierce kiss, grinding his loin-cloth clad sheath into Del's naked one.\u0026nbsp; The larger wolf returned the kiss with passion, goose-bumps setting some of his fur on edge.\n\nAhrilon broke the kiss at Sashi's \"ahem\", and Del glanced at her, abashed, accepting the other loincloth from her outstretched paw.\u0026nbsp; He tied it quickly and looked back at Ahrilon.\n\n\"Varra asked us to fetch some water from the well, wuff...are you well enough to walk?\"\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon grasped Delyc's paw again, smiling up at him.\n\nDelyc nodded and walked out the door with his mate.\u0026nbsp; Outside, Ahrilon picked up an empty basin-pole, and Delyc picked up the two buckets, both wolves making their way towards the smoke that marked the central portion of the village.\n\n\"What do you think they'll be like Ari?\"\u0026nbsp; Delyc glanced over at his wolf-mate, curious.\n\n\"I don't know Del...I guess we're about to find out.\"\n\nThe wolves walked a bit through the forest, the Ren'Aih's hut was a bit away from the main village, probably to minimize noise for the patients as well as the spread of disease from those unfortunate enough to contract illness.\u0026nbsp; Slowly a village of huts became visible through the trees and then the village sprawled before them.\u0026nbsp; Both wolves took in a quick breath at what they saw.\u0026nbsp; They had been expecting a small community, perhaps as big as their own pack had been...what they did not expect was a village three times the size of their own, sprawling out in different directions.\n\n\"It's so big...\"\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon looked over the village and noticed that instead of mud and skin, the huts looked to be made mostly of wood, with some sort of rocks on the roof.\u0026nbsp; Instead of conical, the huts were squarer, with a smoke-hole that looked more like a stack.\u0026nbsp; The roads between the huts were lined with stone instead of packed dirt, and there were many wolves walking around with baskets or bags or feral pack-animals.\u0026nbsp; One that was walking with a feral ox also had something trailing him...what looked like some sort of box on round hoops.\u0026nbsp; The thing slid so easily over the ground as to be magic...and it was laden with grain as well!\u0026nbsp; What had they gotten themselves into?\n\n\"There's the well I think...\"\u0026nbsp; Delyc pointed towards the center of the mass of huts at some sort of stone basin that was _spouting_ water into the air!\u0026nbsp; Delyc didn't seem terribly phased by any of it, but then nothing much phased Ari's rock-steady mate.\n\nAhrilon chuckled...Delyc always was the one with his head on the ground.\u0026nbsp; Reliable and dependable...he was the one that anchored Ahrilon down...a perfect counterweight to his own flights of fancy.\u0026nbsp; He grinned and hugged Del again, the larger wolf returning the gesture with care...as best he could while carrying buckets anyway.\n\nThe two wolves continued down the hill and into the town along the cobblestone road.\u0026nbsp; Other wolves dressed in traditional tribal attire walked as well, still carrying their burdens.\u0026nbsp; Some looked over at the newcomers and grinned, nodding.\u0026nbsp; Others looked at them with some confusion.\u0026nbsp; The community was larger than the two had expected, but it appeared that everyone there still knew each other, and the two were strangers.\u0026nbsp; Yet others looked upon them with respect, as if they understood them.\n\nFinally the wolves made it to the 'well' and dipped the buckets into the basin.\u0026nbsp; They hooked the buckets on the two ends of the pole and then hoisted it onto their shoulders.\u0026nbsp; The pole tipped forward towards Ahrilon since he was a good paw shorter than Delyc, but they made it work.\u0026nbsp; The area around the well seemed to be a gathering place.\u0026nbsp; In fact the well seemed to be a part of a large thoroughfare, setting off to the side.\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon wondered briefly what the open area was for, before setting off, Delyc following behind.\n\nThe two lost themselves a bit in the sights and sounds of the village.\u0026nbsp; Everything was so different...so new.\u0026nbsp; They finally made their way back to the edge of the town and then up the dirt path to the Ren'Aih's hut.\u0026nbsp; Varra heard them tramping up the hill and waved out the door, smiling.\u0026nbsp; \"What did you think of the village?\"\n\n\"It was...amazing!\"\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon looked around the little clearing.\u0026nbsp; \"A sled with hoops...and the well actually spouted water into the air!\"\n\nThe two set the buckets down on the ground and Varra came forth with pitchers, dipping them into one of the buckets for fresh water, and then beckoned the two young males to come inside.\n\nAs they entered the hut, they noticed that the hunks of venison had been pared down into easier portions, and Sashi was finishing up what looked to be some kind of porridge.\u0026nbsp; Varra set the fresh water in the center of the table and began to dish out slices of meat.\u0026nbsp; \"Yes, the well-spout has always been there, or so I'm told.\u0026nbsp; It was already bubbling when our founders discovered it, they merely built the basin to catch the water.\u0026nbsp; The wagon you described though...that was something that Jeran thought up several years ago.\u0026nbsp; It has made things much easier.\"\u0026nbsp; She flashed another smile at the boys.\n\nSashi came over with the porridge and dished it into four clay bowls.\u0026nbsp; \"So you boys liked the village then?\"\n\n\"As long as they let us mate...we'll like anyone anywhere.\"\u0026nbsp; Delyc smiled and sat down on one side of the table.\u0026nbsp; \"But seeing it all was impressive.\"\u0026nbsp; The larger wolf took a slice of the venison and submerged it in his porridge.\n\nAhrilon sat down next to his mate and nodded in turn.\u0026nbsp; \"It was incredible...I didn't know so many wolves could live in the same tribe!\"\n\nVarra was about to say something, but stopped herself short when she saw Delyc place the meat in his bowl of porridge.\u0026nbsp; She shook her head as if seeing something that wasn't there, and then looked back up at the boys.\u0026nbsp; \"Yes, of course we don't care who you mate with.\u0026nbsp; Most of us here did not want to give up our bond-sisters.\u0026nbsp; And bond-brothers.\"\u0026nbsp; She added.\n\nAhrilon smiled a bit.\u0026nbsp; That was one of his mate's little quirks...dipping his meat in his porridge.\u0026nbsp; It was a habit he'd picked up from his father before the raid on that fateful night.\n\nSashi nodded as she and Varra sat down on the other end of the table.\u0026nbsp; \"It's good that you like the village then...you'll be meeting the Council later this afternoon to discuss your possibilities.\"\u0026nbsp; Sashi smiled coyly, tearing into her venison.\n\nBoth of the young males gave the older females questioning glances, but were met only with mischievous smirks.\u0026nbsp; Letting it go, they began to dig in, enjoying their breakfast thoroughly.\u0026nbsp; After they were finished and the dishes cleaned, Del and Ari headed out into the woods for some air, spending a good part of the afternoon simply enjoying being together and healthy again.\u0026nbsp; Some were male, others female, but all of them seemed to be past their middle years.\n\nA wolf that looked to be a bit past his fiftieth name-day spoke up as all the elder wolves turned to regard the two young males.\u0026nbsp; \"Greetings outsiders.\u0026nbsp; It sounds as though you have been very lucky.\u0026nbsp; I ask, how came you to these lands?\"\n\nAhrilon and Delyc shared a glance before the larger wolf nodded at his mate.\u0026nbsp; \"Umm...yes...well...\"\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon stammered a bit.\u0026nbsp; \"You see...we were hunting...in the packlands of the An'ak Sorashin.\"\u0026nbsp; There was a muted gasp from the crowd, obviously some had not believed Sashi about that.\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon continued.\u0026nbsp; \"We needed meat and the only hunting was across their borders.\u0026nbsp; Well, we were attacked by a warrior.\"\n\n\"I was attacked and you saved me, Ari.\"\u0026nbsp; Delyc interjected.\n\n\"We were attacked and we were wounded.\"\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon continued.\u0026nbsp; \"I...I thought they would follow us after the warrior ran back to the tribe to tell them...so I helped Del up and we ran.\u0026nbsp; For a long time, I can't really remember...everything just sort of blurred together.\u0026nbsp; Next I knew we were in Sashi's hut all bandaged up.\"\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon took a deep breath and looked over at Del, a small smile working its way through his nerves.\u0026nbsp; Del looked like he wanted to say something...add to the story, but didn't.\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon's rendition got the point across.\n\n\"Hmm...interesting.\u0026nbsp; Yet it does not say how or why you were separated from your own pack.\u0026nbsp; Were they attacked by the An'ak?\"\u0026nbsp; The older wolf continued to stare at the two young wolves in an unsettling manner.\n\nAhrilon shuffled his hindpaws, about to speak when Del broke the silence.\u0026nbsp; \"It was my idea to leave.\u0026nbsp; I asked Ahrilon to come with me and become rogues.\"\u0026nbsp; Delyc winced at the words, but didn't make any excuses.\n\n\"Ah...and why did you abandon your pack?\u0026nbsp; Surely they needed you.\u0026nbsp; What would be strong enough to break those types of bonds and excuse you from your responsibility?\"\u0026nbsp; The same wolf continued to speak, the others remaining silent as the grave.\n\n\"They...didn't approve of what we wanted to do.\"\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon said, looking over at Delyc.\n\nThe larger wolf spoke up vehemently, the beginnings of tears glistening in his eyes.\u0026nbsp; \"We're mates!\u0026nbsp; They expected us to break our bond and we wouldn't do it!\"\u0026nbsp; Delyc gripped Ahrilon's paw firmly, almost seeming afraid that it would be pulled forcefully out of his grasp.\n\nThe speaker-wolf nodded sagely.\u0026nbsp; \"So you abandoned your friends and family, your home, and your responsibility because you love each other?\"\n\n\"Yes!\"\u0026nbsp; Both young wolves echoed in unison.\n\nAfter a long silence, the wolf nodded and then smiled a bit.\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon looked around to see the other wolves smiling as well.\u0026nbsp; What had they said?\u0026nbsp; Were they going to be forced to leave, or worse, go back?\n\nThe speaker raised his voice again.\u0026nbsp; \"I take it you haven't been formally mated then?\"\u0026nbsp; The kind smile remained on his muzzle.\n\n\"Well...no...not really.\u0026nbsp; Just the bond ceremony when we were little.\"\u0026nbsp; Ahrilon looked around the group, trying to get a better read on what they might be thinking.\n\nThe wolves shared a bit of a chuckle before the speaker spoke up yet again.\u0026nbsp; \"Do you wish to stay with this pack?\u0026nbsp; Life will not be easy.\u0026nbsp; You will both have to take up a trade to earn your keep.\u0026nbsp; You will both have to work for the good of the pack and devote yourselves to its survival.\"\n\nAhrilon and Delyc both nodded, eyes lighting up, but remaining silent.\n\n\"Ah, well then all that's left is for you to prove yourselves.\u0026nbsp; You will be properly mated tonight by the grand fire.\u0026nbsp; You must be prepared to speak your vows, and demonstrate your love before the whole pack.\u0026nbsp; We shall take our leave...Sashi, Varra...please prepare these two for the ceremony.\"\u0026nbsp; With that, the elder wolves turned and padded down the dirt back towards the village.\n\nAhrilon and Delyc watched the elder wolves leave, both sporting expressions that were somewhere between bewildered happiness and straight up confusion.\u0026nbsp; On the one hand, it sounded like they were going to be allowed to stay...but what vows would they have to take and what was this ceremony?\n\nThe young males glanced over at Sashi and Varra who were positively beaming.\u0026nbsp;
