This was a poem I wrote about a month ago after having issues with someone very dear to me. It was my fault, and I wrote it the day after as a lamentation and perhaps even a penance of sorts. We've since sorted things out.

If I could turn back time,
I'd erase the words I said,
If I could just rewind,
And take the dark thoughts from your head,

I want to turn back time,
And right the wrongs I've made,
But life is a straight line,
And this is the path I've laid,

Please don't think you failed,
Because nothing was your fault,
And I was never leaving you,
Because yours in the name I exalt,

But I made a mistake,
For I'm just a humble man,
I didn't mean to cause you heartache,
That was never part of the plan,

I should've known this would happen,
And now I pray night and day,
That I can salvage the wreckage,
That loss isn't the price I pay,

And if I could earn your trust,
I would never lose it again,
And if you would please come back,
I would eternally be your friend,

But there is so much more,
That I want from this life,
It's everything we had before,
A partner to weather the strife,

I know you don't believe,
That I'm sincere in my heart,
But I will say this to you now,
I never wanted us to part,

The darkness that you feel,
Most of it's inside your head,
Because the thought of hurting you,
Well, I'd rather I was dead,

Though you may not trust me now,
And I wouldn't blame you there,
I hope you trust these words,
You are always in my prayers,

And if you can forgive,
I'll do whatever I can do,
To prove that I'm sincere,
Because I never meant to hurt you,

So with a heavy heart,
I sing my lonely song,
And I'm wishing day and night,
To have everything that's gone.
