An ode to otters.","content":"Saw an old man down by the riverside, lookin' 'bout half past dead/\n\nGave him two dollars and a penny, for to get a bottle just to cool his head/\n\nTurned around to hand it back to me,\u0026nbsp; and I looked at him like he was mad/\n\nSwept his gaze up to my eyes, and he gave a single shake of his head, /\n\nSaid \"I've been here for a long while, and I'll stay until I'm good and dead,\"/\n\n\"It's been a many year since I've sat here, and I'll stay 'til my kingdom come, /\n\nI didn't know just what to say to that, so I asked, \"Hey, mister, where you from?\"/\n\nHe took a minute,\u0026nbsp; thinking 'bout everything,\u0026nbsp; and I thought he was dead/\n\nGave the biggest smile I have never seen,\u0026nbsp; and he turned to me,\u0026nbsp; and he said:/\n\n\"I come from over yonder, where the mountain starts, and the river ends\"/\n\n\"The first thing I saw was the water; it'll be the last thing I see again, \"/\n\n\"Yeah,\u0026nbsp; I came from the water, and if you see a friend of mine, \"/\n\n\"Tell him he's still got a brother,\u0026nbsp; who won't let him get left behind...\"/\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poetry, both old and new","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/2090676-heckle-tweak.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/2155731-howl-at-the-moon.json"}}
