But other than that, no further preparations are needed." Michael told him.

Spyro nodded, and walked into his house, and cooked and ate a meal. He was unnerved by the silence, but he eventually settled down on the bed with a book.

Cynder landed back in the square, smiling and laughing with the others. They all separated, and headed to their own homes. Cynder walked into her house, and looked around. She noticed Spyro had left her a meal, and smiled. She ate, while watching the stars out the window. Eventually, she walked into their bedroom and noticed that Spyro had fallen asleep with a book in his paws. Cynder chuckled and grabbed the book, she set it on the nightstand and laid down next to him. Spyro smiled and curled up around her. Cynder sighed and closed her eyes, smiling brightly, then fell asleep.

_Endless black, Cynder gasped, and looked around. Cynder could hear the voices of Spyro, of Michael, and of all their friends. Cynder did not recognize them at first, then she gasped._

_“I… killed you?" She mumbled._

_They nodded in unison, making Cynder shiver. It got really cold all of a sudden._

_“Why are you here?"_

_They started laughing._

_“Did you think you were worthy of happiness?" They said together._

_Cynder sighed. “Your just my subconscious, aren't you?"_

_“Did you think we would leave you alone, we are the spirits of those you murdered." They chanted._

_“I know you aren't; I have protection spells against hauntings." Cynder shouted, retreating._

_They started walking towards her, ignoring her words._

_“You do not deserve what you have, you killed thousands."_

_“I was under the control of someone else, someone who was also controlled by evil." Cynder replied._

_They closed on her. “You should have fought."_

_“I was just hatched; how could I fight?" She squeaked_

_They charged, and everything returned to black._

Cynder woke with a gasp, despite the warm body laying against her, she was freezing. She called out, a sound of raw fear that only one dragon would recognize. Spyro woke up with a gasp and leaped into a battle stance.

“What is it?" He growled, looking around.

He looked over at her, and realized she was shivering.

“Bad dream?" He cooed at her.

She nodded, and Spyro leaned forward and nuzzled her.

“c-c-c-c-cold." She shivered.

Spyro curled back around her, and covered her with his wing, while charging his fire element. Cynder sighed and nuzzled against him.

“It's all in your head, everything is fine." Spyro whispered.

Cynder looked up at him. “Not for all those people I killed."

Spyro recoiled, and looked back at her. “Is that still bothering you so much?"

“Enough to give me these nightmares."

Spyro moved closer. “Just let it go, you're here, now, with me."

Cynder sighed. “I know, but it's always in the back of my mind."

Spyro glanced out the window, and looked at the stars twinkling in the sky.

“Hopefully you can move past it, with more time."

“It's been over two years since you rescued me."

“It can take centuries."

Cynder was shocked by his reply, not by the length of time, but his acceptance of the fact that he will wait and help her move on. She nuzzled him, and laid her head next to his, then closed her eyes.

Spyro woke when the sun reached his eyes, Cynder was still asleep against her. He looked out the window and noticed that Flame and Ember were standing in the square, waiting for something. After a few minutes, Spyro watched as Michael stepped out of his house, and took of with the others. Spyro smiled and looked down at his mate, then froze, remembering her nightmare. She looked exhausted, and she was gripping tightly to him, leaving no chance of him getting up without waking her. Voices from his living room informed him that his family was awake. Spyro nuzzled Cynder lightly, making her purr, but not wake. He sighed, not wanting to wake her, but it was time for them to get ready. Spyro was about to nudge her, when he noticed her claws. The metal blades that serve as her claws were covered in elaborate designs, he looked over and noticed similar designs on her wing and tailblades. She also had her scales polished, and was practically glowing in the sunlight. Spyro nuzzled her more, this time with a little more force. She giggled at him and opened her eyes. Spyro always loved the blissful slice of peace in her eyes when she has just woken up, before her mind truly wakes. She smiled at him, making him laugh and touch his nose to hers.

“We need to get ready, immortality time." He told her.

She gasped, and leaped out of bed. “I promised Sapphire I would let her help me, I got to go."

Spyro raised an eyebrow as Cynder collected her armor and ran out of the room.

“Hey there, where's the fire." Sparx's voice rang from the living room.

“Shoo fly, I got to go." Cynder replied.

Spyro heard the door open and close, and laughed. He got up, and put on his armor. Then stepped into the living room. The dragonflies all turned and looked at him, their eyes widened at the sight of his armor.

“I don't think I've ever seen you wearing your armor when it was clean, you look like one of those chandeliers." Sparx told him.

Spyro chuckled. “Thanks, you always know how to describe me with the best words."

Spyro made a quick meal, before stepping out into the square. Sapphire's mate, Sam, was looking back at his house, with a confused expression on his face. He turned to Spyro when he walked up to him.

“It's an ascension, not a mating ceremony, why did they kick me out?" He asked.

“How should I know?" Spyro replied.

Suddenly, Mark teleported into the square, he looked around, and frowned, before vanishing.

“It's going to take a minute for him to figure that out." Sam mused, smirking.

“So, you ascended too?" Spyro asked him.

“Yes, but in a slightly different way." Sam answered “Back then, the immortality spell Michael used was only for us, and did not affect our children. But they each were given a chance to join us. For some reason all of our kids said no."

“Why would they do that?"

“I don't know, nor do I know when exactly Michael changed his immortality spell to be passed down through generations. He had been meaning to immortalize the royal family, your father was supposed to be the first immortal in your family." Sam told him.

Spyro nodded, and turned as Michael landed in the square.

“Is it already time? I don't think Cynder is ready yet." Spyro told him.

“I can wait." Michael replied. “You have no idea how long it took her mother to get ready for her mating ceremony."

Sam raised an eyebrow, and Michael chuckled. “I suspect it runs in the family, your lucky you didn't have one."

Spyro was about to ask why, but Cynder walked out of the house, and smiled. Her armor had been accented with black runes. She was smiling brightly at Spyro, who was stunned by her beauty. Flame and Ember landed in the square, and walked up to them.

“Hey, you look nice." Ember told Cynder.

“Thanks." Cynder replied, double checking a strap on her armor.

“Don't worry, it's not that bad." Flame replied, chuckling.

Star teleported in, and looked around. “Have you seen Mark?" She asked them.

“He appeared for like five seconds then vanished." Spyro told her.

She rolled her eyes, and smiled. “He still hasn't figured it out."

“Teleporting is hard." Michael replied.

“I don't think it will be as hard for me, since I can already teleport." Cynder whispered to Spyro.

“It's the same as portal travel." Spyro whispered back. “We'll be able to do it immediately."

Michael spread his wings, and flapped, sending a gust of wind at the group of dragons.

“No more chit-chat, lets go" He took flight.

Spyro and Cynder followed, Michael led them out of the city and over the nearby woods. Spyro noticed that Michael's wings were starting to cast trails of blue energy, as if they were cutting through the sky itself.

“Stay close behind me." He called back at them.

Suddenly, Michael began to speed up, but the following dragons found that it was not hard for them to keep up. Michael dived, and fell through the sky, before the two dragons could react, they fell through as well. They were brought into a new dimension, they looked down and noticed a massive jungle, spreading out into the horizon. They landed in front of an ancient temple, and walked through it's massive doors.

“Welcome." Michael's voice boomed. “To the temple of ascension, dragon-kind was born here, and evolved under the guardianship of this temple."

“Wow, look at those statues." Cynder whispered.

The statues were impressive, and depicted dragons of all shapes, sizes, and types. Spyro noticed one that looked similar to himself, and read the text below.

_DRACIOS ELEMENTIA_

“That's what we are." He told Cynder.

They walked into a strange hall, in the center of the room there was a large ring, and Michael motioned for them to step into it. As soon as they did so, it burst into blue flame. Michael took a stance facing the circle on the podium, and charged his magic.

“Spyro and Cynder, do you accept your invitation to ascend and join me, as an immortal?"

They both nodded, and Michael's eyes flashed. The two dragons and the ring of fire began to rise into the air. They started to glow, and Michael smiled at them, before nodding. Spyro looked over at Cynder, who nodded at him, smiling brightly. Michael shot forward two beams of pure ethereal magic. The two beams took the same shape as the two dragons before them. The dragons merged with their matching counterparts; runes started to form all over their bodies. There was a pulse of magic, and a shockwave, and the spell was complete. The two dragons fell to the floor, unconscious. Spyro woke with a gasp, he had felt impossible amounts of magic before, but never this much. He groaned, and slowly got up. Michael was standing next to them, waiting for them to wake up. He smiled at Spyro when he got up.

“How does it feel." He asked.

“Weird" Spyro replied.

Spyro stretched, then decided to test out some of his powers. He vanished, and appeared behind Michael, before vanishing and returning to his original spot. Michael didn't look fazed.

“Aether and Dark dragons always figure it out the fastest." He told Spyro.

Cynder groaned lightly. “My first immortality headache."

Spyro walked up and nuzzled her, then stepped back and focused. Cynder squeaked lightly as she was lifted off the ground and dusted off. Michael chuckled when she shot Spyro a glare, then vanished.

“Wait, how do we get back?" Spyro called.

“I think were supposed to figure that out." Cynder replied.

Spyro walked up to her and held her tail with his.

“Hold on." He told her.

Suddenly, they were back at the square in Warfang, but somehow, the square was above them, not below them. Cynder realized they were upside down, and promptly fell onto the stone bricks. Spyro hit the ground beside her.

“Woops." He groaned.

They got up, laughing.

“Not bad for over forty-five trillion dimensions away." Michael appeared behind them.

They yelped and leaped back.

“Are you still doing that?" Cynder yelled, “We can do the same thing, how does that still scare us?"

“It likely will for a while." Michael smirked. “It took your parents twenty years to get used to it."

“The whole group is immortal now." Spyro replied. “Nice"

“You won't notice for a few thousand years." Michael replied. “Eventually, everybody will get tired of their new powers and will likely forget about them for a while."

Trice landed next to them, breathing hard.

“Dad, there is a dragon over in the fortuna galaxy that has an eldritch necklace, he was the one that destroyed that village you went to. We found him, but he's fighting back."

Michael nodded. “Go hold him off, I'll be right there."

“Were coming." Spyro replied, and Cynder nodded.

“Nope, your done with fighting, haven't you had enough of being stabbed? Spyro with a dragonbolt, and Cynder with that eldritch tendril?" Michael replied. “It's time for you to settle, get used to it."

Michael promptly vanished, Cynder looked over to Spyro.

“Is he right?"

“I think so, but that shouldn't mean we don't fight every once in a while." Spyro replied, then shrugged. “I don't know, but soon you definitely won't be fighting."

Cynder smiled, and looked over at him.

Michael landed in front of a city, it was abandoned, but also filled with shadow creatures. He looked over at the general standing next to him.

“What's the situation?" He asked

“Unknown number of hostiles, the leader is somewhere in the center. All civilians have evacuated prior to our arrival." The general replied.

Michael turned to Trice. “What is the artifact?"

“A necklace, eldritch origins, set with a large eldritch stone which allows the wearer to summon and control massive armies of those creatures." Trice replied.

Michael nodded, and a group of dragon soldiers rushed into the city. The creatures screeched and charged them, but were quickly dispatched by the soldiers. Michael walked through the city, any creature that would dare approach him would vanish with a puff of black smoke.

“Obviously, the bearer doesn't know how to use his forces wisely." Trice smirked.

They approached the center of the city, the soldiers cleared out the center square, but more of these creatures seemed to pour from everywhere. Michael walked into the city hall, and noticed a dark red dragon sitting on a poorly constructed throne.

“Oh, look, another would be king." Trice added.

“Who dares enter my land?" The red dragon bellowed feebly.

“The owner of that necklace you're wearing." Michael replied

“I found this; it is mine now."

Michael chuckled, and snapped his fingers, the creatures that served as guards vanished, causing the red dragon to leap up, and look around frantically.

“So, why have you been terrorizing those villages?" Michael asked.

“They have been oppressing and terrorizing us for hundreds of thousands of years, they deserve what they get." The dragon snarled.

Trice raised an eyebrow. “Funny, that's the same exact thing they said."

“Blood feuds." Michael sighed. “It gets to the point where they don't even remember why they started fighting in the first place."

The dragon stepped off of his throne and walked towards them.

“What do you know? You come here, to my home…."

“Doesn't look much like a home, you know, with nobody else here." Trice cut him off

“They will return, when I show them that it is safe."

Michael reached forward and used his magic to grab the necklace. He pulled it off the red dragon's neck, and it flew into his claws.

“What? How? That's impossible." The dragon retreated, then turned and ran.

“Let him go, he can't do anything now." Michael told Trice.

They walked out of the building, and out of the city. Trice took the necklace and put it on.

“How's it look?" She asked.

“Like it was made for a black dragon, which it is."

Trice rolled her eyes, and her scales suddenly turned black.

“Better?"

Michael chuckled, and they teleported back to Faun.

Spyro watched as Michael, and a black-scaled Trice walked up to them.

“It's time." Michael told him. “Go get Cynder."

END OF BOOK FIVE
