revision #1 Jan 24 2026

quiet falls in feather down
the earth holds its breath
the crow storms up thunderclouds
in its beak was death

wings beating to death march drum
rippling humid air
simmered with cicada's hum
chorus to our prayer

answered thus by howling wind
condemn ye your fate
what befalls ye is what sin
hath precipitate

as lightning tears false night's shroud
darkness fell on us
though thunder roars judgment loud
all we heard was hush

all we heard was hush

wings beating to death march drum
rippling humid air
simmered with cicada's hum
chorus to our prayer

answered thus by howling wind
condemn ye your fate
what befalls ye is what sin
hath precipitate

as lightning tears false night's shroud
darkness fell on us
though thunder roars judgment loud
all we heard was hush

all we heard was hush

old version:

quiet falls in feather down
the earth holds its breath
the crow storms up thunderclouds
in its beak was death

each wing beat timed to deaths drum
a pulse sent through air
simmered with cicada's hum
soothesong to our prayers

as lightning tears darkest shroud
false night fell on us
though thunder boomed threatening loud
all we heard was hush
