Wrote this a while back to vent about a noticeable digital trend that I felt was happening a lot at the time and of course still happens. Originally posted this in May 2023.

Pieces of the Past Lost to Digital Dust

Photos of those now gone

Videos from accounts and channels their owners left in the past

Among many other things we thought would always last

But a lot has changed including the ways of the world wide web

So companies try to make virtual space in the hopes their money won't possibly ebb

They do so and give the reason why as something like security

But that reasoning doesn't hold up and to most it's plain to see

We see the way this is becoming an unfortunate trend

Of bringing accounts old and unused for whatever reasons

Just taking up space now being brought to an end

Taking down the accounts of those lost or who lost passwords to the seasons

But those points aren't considered in the face of changing policy

Instead change is being implemented somewhat quick and hostilely

With people scrambling to archive whatever they can

From these old accounts, trying to stay ahead of corporate plans

To prevent a lot of old memories and data potentially being lost

The internet was something believed to be sacred and forever

Making it easy to forget that unfortunately it too has a cost
