I wrote this after a trip to DR that was part vacation and part memorial for a family member I lost at the height of the pandemic. This is a poem about death and generational similarities. Bueno\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\n \n\nOut of everybody that checks all the boxes there's a strange poetry to it being you\n\n \n\nAll the others are scattered and occupied with other things they need to do\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nYou know they would have come if they could for they have done so before\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nBut they're not here right now leaving you as the one to stand in front of the padlocked door\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nThere are others still but most of them are from other places and generations present and past\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nAnd you you are left to stand there and consider the contrast\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nWhile there is a struggle to crack open that lock\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nPondering what it must feel like to be among the last\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nThe last of a generation of family\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nOut of plenty of siblings, the very last of your brothers\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nOutliving them along with other family as well as friends and probably others\n\n \n\nThe strength that takes and how it was stolen so fast to be put into a too tight locked grave\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nWhilst we cry and contemplate all the pieces of himself that he gave\n\n \n\nBrushing a hand over the grave marker and still in disbelief over where time has gone\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nAlone only in thought with so much left to dwell on\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nLike the way your stubbornness and will to keep going\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nWere traits you both shared\n\n \n\nNothing could have prepared you for what you're doing here\n\n \n\nAll the respects, only a fraction of which that you can pay\n\n \n\nYou'd say you wonder how it came to be this way\u0026nbsp;\n\n \n\nBut you were there and witnessed how\n\n \n\nAnd then you're off leaving the dead and ghosts behind for right now\n\n \n\nAs generations continue to dwindle as they sadly do\n\n \n\nYou merely hope and pray\n\n \n\nIt'll be a long time before things go that way with yours as well as you too\n\n\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;"}
