# A Sweeter Essence Extracted

Wrote this when I was busy and also in a bit of a slump. Still fairly busy but this continues my attempt to make a poem for every occasion and celebrations of all sorts. I wrote this poem for National Watermelon Month which was in July and this was done months later… yeah. On the plus side I’m pretty close to catching up the backlog now. Originally posted in September 2024.

Watermelon is an interesting fruit to me&nbsp;

 

Appearing so often at things like barbecues and the lunch spreads at work&nbsp;

 

You'd think it's inclusion there was automatically free&nbsp;&nbsp;

 

And in its name is its perk&nbsp;

 

To be refreshing like water&nbsp;

 

And to have a taste people really enjoy&nbsp;

 

On its own I've only found it average at best but it's no real bother

 

I accept that I don't like it quite like others do and don't have to be a killjoy &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 

Now when it's used as a flavoring is when it stands out to me best

 

The natural fruit is fine but to me the essence of its flavor is better&nbsp;

 

Makes it something I want to request&nbsp;

 

From its original taste and texture it becomes unfettered&nbsp;

 

In the form of one sweet treat or another&nbsp;

 

You can say at that point it's just me liking the sugar

 

I'd say the taste of watermelon isn't so easy to smother

 

Changed or not the essence should be there to look for&nbsp;

 

And taste for as well&nbsp;

 

A taste that when sweet enough can be an easy sell&nbsp;  
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;
