Even though the human couldn't talk, he smiled and gave the foal a hug back as a return gesture.\n\nSpirit smiled at that and set each of them a plate of pancakes out. \"Go ahead and eat up you two.\"\n\nComo tasted the pancakes and smiled showing that it was the most delicious thing he had ever tasted.\n\nSpirit nodded and sat down to eat as well. \"Did you see if your grandmother was up?\"\n\n\"She is,\" said Jamie and in came Dawn fully dressed. \"Oh, I was hoping to make breakfast this time,\" she said half jokingly, \"Morning you three.\"\n\n\"Good morning mom.\" Spirit chuckled as he ate.\n\n\"So, did you and Como sleep well last night?\" asked Dawn as Jamie finished his pancakes and rushed off to get ready for school.\n\n\"Yeah I slept alright. What about you Como?\"\n\nComo rubbed his arm shyly and nodded his head. \"Well, you two have fun together,\" said Dawn, \"I've got to get Jamie to school.\" She left the two of them alone so to help the foal get ready, but Spirit knew his mother was known to play matchmaker before.\n\nSpirit sighed shaking his head. \"Well Como, why don't you let me get ready and we can go see Doctor Cherry soon?\" He asked standing up.\n\nComo's head perked up and nodded his head. Later, he was having trouble with putting on some shoes... Mostly because he put one of them to his ear acting like a telephone but was disappointed when no sound came and he nearly gagged from the smell that came from the opening.\n\nSpirit had now walked in and calmly helped him by putting it on for him.\n\nComo was still fascinated and was dumbfounded on where his feet went. He looked to Spirit in confusion and bewilderment.\n\nSpirit grinned and stood up. \"Ready to go?\"\n\nComo nodded his head and when he saw Spirit's car, he looked around the vehicle in fascination of the vehicle. He went behind the tail pipe and sniffed it before spluttering and coughing.\n\nSpirit did find this very strange. \"Umm Como go ahead and get inside.\"\n\nComo tilted his head as he couldn't find the door. He found the handle but when the door opened he jumped back in surprise. He pressed on the door and began examining the door handle.\n\nSpirit clicked his tongue and waited patiently.\n\nWhen Dawn and Jamie came out, the foal giggled and showed Como how to open the door. The human smiled as he sat down in the seat, bouncing up and down at how soft it was and rocking the car along with it. \"Be sure to buckle up,\" said Jamie as he showed Como how to fasten his seatbelt. The human turned his attention to the safety belt by pulling the rest of it out and then watching it go back in before he found himself locked to the seat.\n\nOnce he was ready Spirit said goodbye to his mom and son before driving into town and to the clinic.\n\nWhen they arrived, Como was beside himself with amazement at everything around him. Even the less attractive waste basket had peaked his interest.\n\nSpirit had decided to hold onto Como's hand to keep him close by and sighed softly.\n\nThis delighted Como as he looked up at the stallion with playful innocence just like Jamie's.\n\nSpirit smiled slightly then stood as the receptionist told them to go in. Spirit led him in and then Dr Cherry a female golden retriever stepped in.\n\nComo was still looking around him at the various items all around him in the check up room. But it was chilly and it made him shiver with cold.\n\nAfter Spirit told everything to Dr Cherry, she decided to give Como a full checkup.\n\nComo was a little nervous at first and when she felt the stethoscope on his chest, he shivered from the cold and clung to Spirit when it came to showing some needles. He had tears in his eyes when he was afraid of being punctured by those things. He remembered one time when he found them and he pricked his hand on them.\n\n\"Don't worry Como, she needs to check everything on you.\" Spirit told him.\n\nComo shivered and nodded as he looked up at Spirit hoping he would still be there for him. The rest of the check up went smoother than expected and the young human made sure Spirit never left his side.\n\nSpirit never did. Once she was done Dr. Cherry then gave Como a cherry lollipop.\n\nComo licked it and smiled as he sucked on it some more.\n\nSpirit chuckled and then talked to Dr Cherry about everything.\n\nComo sat back and enjoyed his lollipop some more. Thanks, though.\"\n\nComo frowned a little but he held Spirit's hand and rested his head on the stallion's shoulder.\n\n\"Hmm wonder what we should do now…\"\n\nComo looked up at Spirit hoping he would have some ideas as he shrugged his shoulders.\n\n\"Well I guess we can head home. Jamies at school and mom probably went over to one of her friends.\"\n\nComo thought but then his face went up as he started to move his arms around to act like he was swimming. He pointed in the direction of the beach where Spirit found him and then made the swimming motion with his arms again.\n\n\"You wanna go swimming?\" He asked him.\n\nComo smiled and nodded his head tugging at Spirit's hand.\n\nSpirit shrugged as he walked to the beach. \"Sure I guess.\"\n\nComo smiled hugging Spirit. Hopefully he would get to see some of his friends there.\n\nSpirit returned the hug and walked. \"We don't have any swimsuits with us though so just swim in your clothes.\" He made sure where he parked was fine before they went to the beach.\n\nComo slipped off his shirt and breathed in the fresh air as he walked out into the water as he removed his pants. He turned to Spirit hoping he was coming as well. Just then a sea lion popped out barking. To Spirit, it just seem like barking, but to Como, the sea lion was conversing. \"Look at you,\" said Nigel, \"There's something different... Wait... You finally got to be with the stallion of your dreams, right?\" Como smiled nodding but then shrugging. \"But he hasn't returned your affections yet? He then growled a bit recognizing who had made it. \"We got a stop to make.\" He said before storming toward his car.\n\nComo looked to Spirit in confusion but followed the stallion. He was feeling worried about why the stallion was feeling so mad. Was it something he did? Does not love him back? Would he be rejected by the one he had rescued? These questions flooded his mind until they pulled up to their destination.\n\nIt was a dirty looking house. Spirit didn't wait before walking up to the door and with one forceful kick broke it down. Inside was a rat man eating from a can. Spirit walked straight up to him. \"Benny! I told you what I would do to you if I ever caught your net around any ocean life!\" He roared and then began pummeling the rat.\n\nComo waited in the car feeling worried and scared at the surroundings around him. At that point, he was too afraid to think of approaching Spirit thinking he was still angry. He let out a soft sniffle as his tears were still in his eyes.\n\nOnce home Spirit silently opened the door. \"Lets go...\" He said before walking inside.\n\nComo, still nervous from Spirit's outburst earlier, slowly stepped out of the car, but he didn't make eye contact with Spirit and just settled himself on the front porch which looked out over the sea.\n\nSpirit stepped inside and went over to the couch plopping down onto it.\n\nComo kept on staring out at the sea until there was the sound of Dawn's car driving up to the house. Como smiled as Jamie got out of the car and greeted the human with a hug. Jamie smiled but frowned as he saw the saddened look on Como's face. \"Hey, Grandma, I think Como looks sad,\" said Jamie. \"Did something happen, dear?\" she asked as she came up. Como looked down knowing he couldn't say a word. The old mare walked inside. \"We're home,\" she called and found Spirit on the couch, \"Did something happen between you and Como today? I just got back with Jamie and we noticed that the boy isn't as cheerful as this morning when we last saw him. What happened?\"\n\nSpirit sighed and then told only his mother everything that had happened.\n\n\"Well, if that sea lion was friendly with Como, maybe he just wanted to play,\" said Dawn, \"And as for that rat, I don't blame you one bit but how do you think Como's feeling about that? He's scared and alone in this world. I know. I've been there. And I think you have too.\"\n\n\"I understand mom, but even if that sea lion was friendly they are very dangerous.\"\n\n\"But from what you told me, he doesn't sound dangerous,\" said Dawn.\n\n\"We still can't take that chance though.\" He told her.\n\n\"And do you think that dolphin you rescued was dangerous?\" asked Dawn raising an eyebrow.\n\n\"Of course not, it was a baby and if it was left out in the sun it would have died slowly and horribly. But that doesn't mean that adult dolphins aren't dangerous out in the water. That sea lion has about a 100 more pounds than me and definitely a lot more than Como.\"\n\n\"And how do you think he sees you after what happened at Benny's?\" asked Dawn sternly seeing that Spirit was missing the point of the conversation, \"We have a human boy who has no family, and no where else to go.
