I hate to see you fly  
I love to watch you fall  
If you were my anything  
You'd be nothing at all  
  
When you're soaring through the sky  
And hurtling to the ground  
I hope you learn just what it's like  
To scream without a sound  
  
But when you crash  
And when you break  
I'll be there  
And you I'll take  
  
Your ruined wings, I'll splint them  
Your shattered limbs, I'll mend  
When you open un-blinded eyes  
In me you'll see a friend  
  
But this friend is no friend at all  
Seeking in you some other  
This friend with shallow, wanting eyes  
This friend that wants to smother  
  
The crumpled wings leave no escape  
The mangled limbs, still broken  
These scars were never meant to heal  
I'll leave with you a token  
  
This treasure that I leave with you  
Guard it safely; guard it true  
For someday I'll come back, you see  
And show you we are meant to be  
  
I'll bind you to me, thick and fast  
Obsessively, this bond will last  
For this thing I gave to you
