The only sound to be heard is the wind blowing moaning wails into my ears, muffled by the gas mask over my head.  \nEverything is blurry, I blink a couple of times to return my vision to normal. My eyes are met with light pouring out windows in columns, looking down I am met with the sight of the bodies, unmoving, bathed in red, furry and human alike laying in piles on the concrete warehouse floor illuminated by the columns of light.  \nfuck  \nI set upon the task of picking myself up, trying to ignore the pain all throughout my body. As I push myself up with my hands I grab onto the stock of my SPAS-12 and bring it with me as I slowly rise to my feet. Pulling the pump down I check the chamber, seeing a single red and gold tube, I pull the pump forward with a click, and for the first time I see the amount of bodies that are in this abandoned warehouse with me.  \n  \njesus Christ, there must be a hundred of them in here  \n  \nI began looking for a doorway, an exit, looking to the left my enhanced eyes catch something shiny, a door handle. I bring my shotgun up and walk slowly, measuring my steps and stepping over the dead in respect, when I reach the door I remove my hand from the pump and rest the shotgun on my forearm keeping it pointed forward as I turn the handle slowly and push lightly, peering in the room, then, seeing it was pitch black I click on the flashlight attached under the barrel. Bright light illuminated the office in a circle the desks and the floor were littered with papers, shipment orders, and personnel files. I point my lighted gun to the far wall illuminating an opaque white plastic tarp with the word quarantine written in black on a yellow band stretching across the middle.  \nWalking over to the quarantine tarp I grab a handful of it in my fist and pull, it gave way without much effort, crumpling up in a white heap on the floor. Light rushed in my face and caused me to squint against it letting my sore eyes adjust. Through the bright window I see barren earth and more bodies lying on the ground. I reach up and adjust my gas mask and open the door in the same way I did before.  \nI step out of the dark warehouse and into the bright light of the wasteland that used to be the USA.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"necronik","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/305264-necronik-meet-the-survivors.json"}}
