Internal Conflict

I fell in love today, but I do not know with whom. I am at war with myself as two men are at war with my heart and each other. The saying that all's fair in love and war could not be more true than in a situation such as mine. Sure, I'm a teenage girl, and this may sound a bit like a "Twilight" knockoff, but what happened to that Bella whore and the in-the-closet vampire could not lay a finger on what happened to me.

My senior year in high school, and I'm seventeen years old. I was new here, but had already made a couple friends. Two other girls, Melissa and Katie. They were the ones who showed me the ropes here. And showed me the first boy that tugged on my heart.

"Hey, Ellisia," shouted Melissa, running down the hall at me, "Chad winked at me in physics!"

"Really," I answered, "Did you do anything back?'

"Just put on my flirty look and twisted my finger in my hair a little."

Chad was the first boy that gave me butterflies at this school. Of course, he gave _all_ the girls butterflies. Chad Griffin, the blonde, chiseled, handsome man with a smile so white that the girls (and some guys) had to look away.

There was also another boy though. One that nobody else ever paid any mind to. His name was Antony Sheppard. He was the type that died his hair black, wore dark clothing, had a few piercings on places other than his ears, and listened to weird music. There was something about him though. He had a charming smile, yet, you know he was the kind of guy that was out at night doing graffiti. He really didn't have any friends, but there was one thing that attracted me to him. His "I don't care" attitude. Chad was _amazing_ but he was like everybody else in that he cared what other people thought. But at the end of the day, I still think I'd have more fun and share a stronger love with someone like Chad. Of course, girls _are_ always attracted to the bad boy.

"My mind was on more than boys though, because my next class was college algebra, and I had a _major_ test coming up. I really needed this because I needed to get a scholarship so that I could get into a good college. In the old days getting in wouldn't have been a problem, or at least, wouldn't have been as hard as it is now. But about a year ago my father passed away, and left us with nearly no money. It was just my mother and me. That's why we had to move here, in a small two bedroom apartment. I wasn't bothered by it though, I just wanted my mom and I to be happy. Right now we were, she got a new job as a nurse in the town hospital. While I was doing great in school, had two great friends, and the hopes of a budding romance.

As I was thinking of a budding romance, I saw Chad in the hall, talking on his cell to someone, standing in a corner by a row of lockers.

I wasn't meaning to eavesdrop, but I did hear him saying that things were going smooth. I also heard him say "She'll be mine before she knows what hit her" and when I heard that my heart skipped a beat and so desperately wished he was talking about me. He probably didn't even know I existed though, due to me being new here and only having one class with him. I had six of my seven classes with Antony though, and the one class I had that didn't have either of them in was probably the one I'd like to see the in most. Gym. I smiled at the image Chad's body in gym in a swear soaked shirt, and at the thought of Antony in shorts.

I got into my college algebra class, and before Mr. Spalding (the most boring teacher _ever_) was in the room, there was already an uneasy feeling. I looked from one side of the room to the other, and saw nothing unusual. The second time I glanced around I saw it though. Antony and Chad were sitting on opposite sides of the classroom like normal, but this time they were staring each other down. It was like the looks cowboys got in those old westerns before a gun fight happened. Now, of course people like Chad and people like Antony never got along well, this seemed like a little much. But before any thing bad happened Mr. Spalding ran in, apologizing profusely for being late. That was what ended the "game" the boys were playing.

The hour came and went, I got my test back with a ninety-two percent, and "-A" and I cursed myself for not being good enough. Apparently Chad noticed, and looked over at me smiling. "It's not that big a deal," he laughed, "I mean, look at me, I got a +C, and you don't see me muttering almost curse words under my breath."

"Thanks, but it's sort of a big deal. I mean, you can probably get to school on a football scholarship or something, I can't. You see, I can't tackle very well, and my spiral throw needs work," I said back playfully. He laughed, and his laugh made me feel really warm inside. Then I realized the warm feeling was me blushing. I quickly looked away, but as I did I looked in Antony direction, only to find him glaring again. As soon as my eyes met his he looked away about as quickly as I had from Chad. What was with him, or them, or whatever?
