{"sf1_id":325203,"sf2_id":"Jew8Q39m","title":"Time","author":"Sagaron","words":508,"posted_at":"2012-01-11T06:44:00.000Z","tags":["Abstract","Poetry","questions","time"],"url":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/325203-time","original_url":"https://sofurry.com/s/Jew8Q39m","image_url":"https://cdn.sofurryfiles.com/submissions/thumbnails/a5/9c/a59c0351-ed7e-4cdb-9f8c-5e00354ff166","description":"","content":"\u0026nbsp;\n\nI am tied down by the hands of the clock.\n\nI restrained by an idea that I cannot touch or see.\n\nWhen I cannot see time, I grasp for a clock.\n\nIn the absence of a clock, I'm left grasping for straws.\n\nIn the absence of seconds, minutes, hours, and days is a year in my life really a year?\n\nWould I die if I forgot about time?\n\nIf I failed to count the seconds until death, would I age at all?\n\nIf I could not perceive it, would time be real?\n\nWithout the ability to witness time, does time pass?\n\nWithout the ability to hear the ticking of a clock, does time still progress?\n\nI don't know.\n\nIn life, I always wish I had more time, but can I really have more or less of a thing that does not truly exist?\n\nInvented as a system whose job is to organize our lives into manageable parts, time was _created_ and without humans, couldn't exist.\n\nIf I cast away the notion of time, could I function in society?\n\nIf I threw away the ideas of others could I still be more than an animal?\n\nWithout proper time management, productivity wanes, but if I didn't acknowledge the existence of time, then could I be productive?\n\nI don't know.\n\nSince there is no way to escape it, must I find a way to live with it, this notion that in the next sixty seconds, my heart will beat over sixty and up to a hundred _times_.\n\nWithout time, can there be music?\n\nFor music needs a beat.\n\nWithout time, can there be dance?\n\nFor dance needs rhythm.\n\nWithout time, can there be movies or books?\n\nFor plot needs progression over time.\n\nCan an existence be described without accounting for its passage through time?\n\nYes and no.\n\nYou can still describe everything that is not inextricably bound to time.\n\nI feel drawn to this idea that every waking moment of my life can be measured in units.\n\nI wonder who invented seconds. What constitutes a minute if seconds didn't exist?\n\nWhat constitutes a second if the length of milliseconds was not agreed upon?\n\nWas the invention of time something that was agreed upon, or was it found in the clockwork of the universe, specifically in the movements of planets, as one rotation of earth is a day, or twenty four hours in which both days and hours are units of _time_?\n\nSo many questions, so little _time_.\n\nTime is what I lack, but questions about it, I do not.\n\nIn the course of my life I will only have less and less of it.\n\nEventually, I _will_ die and I fear I will not accomplish my goals in the time I have allotted to me.\n\nI lack the system and structure of time.\n\nI lack organization.\n\nSurrealism is what replaces my reality.\n\nThe lack of true knowledge of the meaning and origin of time constitutes my disorganization.\n\nWithout time, there is chaos, there is madness.\n\nWithout time, I am insane.\n\n  \n  \n\n"}
