I'd be happy to share.","content":"_Crocuta spelea_, she pumps in my blood,\n\nheart pounds, legs pound, lungs pound,\n\nmind is silent.\n\nSilent as the Death it mates with.\n\nStronger than _Lupus dirus_,\n\nyet weaker with each passing evolution.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nShe sighs, she dies.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\n_Crocuta crocuta_ is born.\n\nShe squats in the mud and feels the pulse.\n\nThe Pulse, the Pulse, the pulse in her paws.\n\nRunning again, that lively _crocuta_\n\nstumbles on again with each passing evolution.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAnd howling to the moon, pass the breath of _Lupus dirus_.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nNo canine claw had matched her pace\n\n'til _Canis lupus_ took his place\n\nalong the side of _Hyenae hyenae_ streaked,\n\njust trying to keep up with each passing evolution.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nNow dying, fading, smaller, _Canis lupus_ is.\n\nalmost.\u0026nbsp; no more.\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAnd _Proteles cristata_\n\ntakes the throne of high school drama.\n\nShe shudders and devolves\n\ninto a human teenage girl.\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"old poems","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/168136-poem.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/346530-being-human.json"}}
