#2 of old poems

It's a symbolic poem I wrote, comparing the "evolution" of my personality to the evolution of the different species of hyenas.
If you want the comparison explained, just ask. I'd be happy to share.

_Crocuta spelea_, she pumps in my blood,

heart pounds, legs pound, lungs pound,

mind is silent.

Silent as the Death it mates with.

Stronger than _Lupus dirus_,

yet weaker with each passing evolution.

She sighs, she dies.

_Crocuta crocuta_ is born.

She squats in the mud and feels the pulse.

The Pulse, the Pulse, the pulse in her paws.

Running again, that lively _crocuta_

stumbles on again with each passing evolution.

And howling to the moon, pass the breath of _Lupus dirus_.

No canine claw had matched her pace

'til _Canis lupus_ took his place

along the side of _Hyenae hyenae_ streaked,

just trying to keep up with each passing evolution.

Now dying, fading, smaller, _Canis lupus_ is.

almost. no more.

And _Proteles cristata_

takes the throne of high school drama.

She shudders and devolves

into a human teenage girl.
