"May I ask a question, my lady?"  
  
"Always." The Champion Queen sniffed the air, striding up some stone to stand atop a boulder. "That is the whole point of your fostering."  
  
Ardor nodded, glancing backward. The night clung to all surfaces, opaque even to the eyes of a dragon. She wove a fresh vision charm. "What will it be like when we get to the isle?"  
  
Ears pricking forward, the maned wolf stood silent a tense moment before answering. Her silver armor shone in the faint starlight. No moon would be seen this night. "Having second thoughts, are we?"  
  
"I am oath-bound to follow you, my lady." The dragon straightened. "Dragons don't break their oaths."  
  
"Delighted to hear it, Ar. Now be silent." Her sword flashed to her paws like a fang bared. "The dead approach."
