What I wanted to
do with this was just test the water. Back in high school I was rather good at short stories
but I haven't tried my hand at them in years. I'm just trying to get back into the swing of
things before I jump head first into an entire story. So what you're about to read (even if
only partially before you get bored) is simply a bit of background to a story I /WILL/
write if I feel I have the talent to do so. PLEASE send all constructive criticism to me at
[[email protected]](/cdn-cgi/l/email-protection) (if it's down [[email protected]](/cdn-cgi/l/email-protection) will suffice, but
that e-mail is years old and I hate it) of course any sort of support or praise would be
appreciated as well but I don't deal well with compliments of any degree. Either way its
yiff free ATM /however/ if I continue the story that will change. It's all romantics for
now, but do not worry, I can write some good yiff too. ;)

As an added note I'd like to make sure that the phrase "If you can't say anything nice don't
say anything at all" does not apply here. I would really appriciate any comment at all, as
I'd like to improve if possible.

----

The painful scream of a blazing car horn brought him back to life with a jump. The bright
midday sun was piercing his eyes and within the second it took for his eyes to adjust he
came within feet of death. The high gloss paint of a red sports car shined through the
blinding sunshine and he slammed the wheel to the side, sending his large car flying back
into the correct lane. Luckily he was still a ways away from the large city, and traffic was
as light as it would ever be. He shook his head hard, breaking free of his slumber as he
took large calming breaths. At least now he was awake, if not scared out of his mind.

His eyes still squinted hard, and now searched for the first highway sign, something to
remind him of how far he had come. His paw was wrapped tightly around the wheel, his
claws digging into his own flesh and fur brining a pain he was currently too numb form
his last little dance with death to feel. His spotted, golden fur could have been in much
better condition as it was ragged and uneven. Such things would have been of importance
on any other casual day, but for now he had only one goal in mind. As the sun blazed
down on him he stared forward still searching for that sign, blue eyes squinted only
slightly, he knew he would be there soon.

 ----

There was nothing to be seen, and all that could be felt was a hard mattress beneath him
and an old pillow's sad attempt to comfort his head. He tried to smile as he forced his
eyes open. Beams of sunlight came through the missing blinds, and they illuminated the
dust that floated freely throughout his room. He looked beside him, no one, a seemingly
empty bed except for himself. He sighed lightly and rolled over to face the other way,
still no one. He closed his eyes and whimpered lightly, before once again forcing a smile.
He slowly sat up, his eyes following the larger pieces of dust as they danced across the
walkways of light. He wrapped his blanket around himself even though he was allready
clothed and lazily brought himself to his feet. This was home once more.

His cloaked figure stumbled across the partially lit room, trying to avoid the boxes he had
scattered across the floor. His computer, the current object of his attention, was
assembled lazily on an old wooden desk. He pushed the button with a claw, his blanket
hanging from his arm, nothing. He pushed again, and sighed in disappointment. He had
yet to hook it up, and he was in no mood to do it now. He had just turned around to head
towards the shower when he heard the phone ring. His brow rose as he turned to find
where the sound was emanating from, and quickly saw it lying next to the bed. 'What did
I leave that there for' he thought to himself as he picked up the phone. He cleared his
throat, fully prepared for anyone to be on the other line, as he lazily pushed the talk
button. "Hello?" he asked in a ragged voice, still expecting a stranger calling for his
father or brother. "Dumari?" The voice on the other side questioned. "Loial?" he asked in
reply, his voice quickly returning to a more natural and upbeat tone. It was him...
Suddenly it all came back to him

 ----

He stepped out of the shower, a wide smile spread across his muzzle. His soaked paw
grabbed a towel and quickly dried himself off, staring into the mirror. His smile slowly
faded as his stare grew deeper, and the reality of what was going to happen set in. His
paw poked at his stomach, which bubbled forward from him. He whimpered lightly to
himself as he sucked it in, and still it didn't look right. He stood at a profile only for a
moment before moving quickly to face forward out of disgust. This was what he had to
offer, and soon it would become inescapable. He grabbed his clothes from the bar on the
wall and left the bathroom minus the smile and cheerful attitude he entered with.

He draped the clothes on his chair, and stared at them. 'This is it?' he thought to himself
as he looked over what he considered his 'nice clothes'. The total worth of them couldn't
be more than $100 as they were nothing more than a pair of black dress pants, a thin
black button up shirt, a belt from Bigg's, and a pair of Payless leather shoes. He
sighed, disappointed once more, as he stood up to put them on; Pants first, then socks,
then shoes, then the belt, and then the worst part. He shuddered as he put the shirt on,
one arm, then the other. He slowly buttoned it up and nervously attempted to tuck it into
his pants. Discomfort set in immediately and he tried to untuck it only slightly. He felt the
shirt press up against his stomach, and he pulled up farther, pulling the shirt from his
pants. He growled angrily as he stuffed his shirt back into his pants before pulling it back
out again. He repeated this twice more, only getting more and more angry with the
situation until he tucked his shirt in, pulled it only as far as it could go without falling
free, and angrily threw a punch at the wall.

 ----

He held the directions in his right paw, wrapped around the steering wheel once again.
His stomach twisted in discomfort, his head now throbbing in pain. Just the simple
sensation of his shirt against his fur drove him mad. He turned onto the off ramp 'Only
miles now' he told himself, which only proved to bring more discomfort. His eyes kept
moving from the directions, to the road, to the passenger's seat. His paws grew shaky as
he turned down the first street, it was only a matter of time now. Pain moved across him
with every single mile. Every house that passed made him more and more nervous and
the sweat was beginning to gather on his face. The music blared even louder now in some
sort of attempt to calm himself as he turned into the final road.

A shaky paw shifted the car into park, and slowly moved to turn the key to 'off'. He
wiped the sweat from his face, which only managed to put all the time he spent grooming
the fur to waste. He sighed deeply again, moving the wrapped box into the space behind
his seat, draping a dark shirt overtop of it. He breathed deeply as he opened the car door
and slowly got out, his legs suddenly weak and unstable. He moved to close the door
behind him and jumped, almost slamming his tail in the door, he shook his head,
breathed, and moved on. He had never done anything like this before, and the stress of it
all easily got to him. He pulled his shirt forward a bit and walked towards the house,
making sure to keep his back as straight as it had ever been.

The 20 steps or so seemed to take hours as the cheetah finally reached the front door. His
eyes closed as he bit his lip and forced a shaky claw to push at the doorbell. The sound
made him jump, and he almost wanted to just turn and leave right there, but he made his
feet heavy and just kept breathing deep breaths, staring at the door. He heard shuffling on
the other side and he grew even more uncomfortable. His shaky paws moved to pull his
shirt forward, then to wipe the sweat from his forehead once again. He heard the handle
move and he sighed painfully and closed his eyes tightly as the door opened. He wanted
to run, he wanted to just get away before Loial could see him, but now it was too late. His
eyes opened slowly, painfully, as he saw his mate come into view. "Loial..." he managed
to push the words through his uneasy breath as he looked him over. He was every bit as
handsome as he imagined, and for an instant it only made the situation more
uncomfortable. This was horrible; this was not going to work out. A million reasons why
rushed into the cheetah's head, and each and every one got its attention. His hopes where
crushed, this might as well have ended right there.

"Mari.." his mate's words broke him from his horrific thoughts. The cheetah's shaky eyes
locked with his mate's, and he saw nothing he was afraid of. There was no
disappointment, no pity, no shame. There was nothing of that sort to be found at all, they
were content, if not even joyful. It was as if they were at peace with him all expect for a small
tear forming at the corner of his eye. The cheetah moved only slightly closer, wrapped his
arms around his mate and hugged him tightly. "I love you..." he said in a peacefull and
appriciative tone his head resting on his mates shoulder. "I love you too..." Loial replied
as the cheetah pulled back only slightly bringing them face to face. Moving slowly forward
the cheetah put his hand on the back of his mate's head, as he opened his muzzle slowly
and brought it to his mate's feline lips. It was their first kiss, and it seemed to last an
eternity. Mari's eyes closed tightly, his paw slowly rubbing over his mate's fur, his nose
taking in his scent. His eyes opened only for a second, lost in the moment, and he froze
still. His tongue still lodged passionately in his mate's warm muzzle he didn't move a muscle.
Loial's eyes opened as well, looking rather confused as he moved a paw to pat his mate on
the back and perhaps bring him back to life again. Mari's eyes remained locked, staring
forward in shock and fear, as Loial's parents stood there, not 20 feet from their little
display of affection.

 ----

To be continued....perhaps....or re-written...or abandoned. Whatever.

If you made it this far please leave a rating. Please be honest, and rate me for my inability to write, not my lack of yiff ;)

"}
