{"sf1_id":350606,"sf2_id":"qmy0O9Re","title":"My Patience is Gone","author":"Riverweasel","words":1658,"posted_at":"2012-03-06T23:54:00.000Z","tags":["Poem","independence"],"url":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/350606-my-patience-is-gone","original_url":"https://sofurry.com/s/qmy0O9Re","image_url":"https://cdn.sofurryfiles.com/submissions/thumbnails/d9/72/d972b359-d59a-4d87-8157-8bfa7474f208","description":"#6 of Poems","content":"What a wonderful world I get the privilege of living in\n\nHow could I possibly complain\n\nI'm the pride and joy the world, I'm an American\n\nShamelessly watching my freedoms flushed down the drain\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI voted for Obama in the last election\n\nHe kept talking about hope and change\n\nPerhaps I was simply a little confused\n\nBut Sarah Palin sounded a bit too strange\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nPerhaps instead, since I love animals and nature\n\n\"Drill baby, drill!\" just was a complete put off in my eyes\n\nOr maybe I didn't enjoy the notion that I should feel obligated\n\nTo sacrifice my life, pretending to not be fighting for the corporate guise\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nHe told me we'd be out of Iraq, we'd be out of the war\n\nThat has so uselessly killed so very many\n\nHe said he'd promote equal rights for everyone, both hetero and homo\n\nLooking back at how he did nothing, I can see how I'm no longer a fannee\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nBut I was just barely eighteen years old\n\nI had just been introduced to the system\n\nI had the power of my voice sitting in front of my fingers\n\nThe voice of mine would be put on paper and the country would listen\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nNow I'm twenty-two and my second election is rolling towards me\n\nShouldn't I feel just as excited as before?\n\nI've got Mitt Romney, and Santorum, I've even got Newt\n\nAll vying for the chance to knock down Obama's door\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nBut as I listen to their debates, as I listen to what they're saying\n\nAll of them seem to echo the same things\n\nThey spend the whole debates ripping at each other\n\nInstead of ever addressing the thin strings\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nThat are so barely holding our country together\n\nIf you can even call our current situation so positively\n\nAll I see is that everything I joined the Army for is getting kicked to the curb\n\nScrew prosperity, no need for equality, and fuck liberty\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAll we need is for the businesses and corporation to be running the show\n\nI mean, look how well they represent the American people\n\nThey're totally looking out for us, those bankers and politicians\n\nJust so long as they bend our will and convince us we're too feeble\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nTo stand up for what's ours, to stand up for what's been taken\n\nFor if we do, the corporately owned media will emphatically\n\nTear us all down, say we're all clowns, they'll all frown\n\nAnd claim that the fact Americans are protesting is a tragedy\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nThey yell for first amendment rights when it works for their agendas\n\nThen they yell for the separation of church and state later\n\nThen they simply switch their positions and their beliefs\n\nThe very moment popular views switch on survey papers\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nMitt Romney, he's the glorious, soon to be Republican nominee\n\nAre you fucking kidding me! We can't do better than that?\n\nThe guy stands for absolutely nothing, other than the rich\n\nSame old slob in the same old coat; simply put, the same old cat\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nSantorum is his main challenger and everything he says is disgusting\n\nComparing homosexual relationships to bestiality and more\n\nClaiming the freedom of religion to tout his views\n\nYet never mentioning where his agenda shits on the floor\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nThe once shining floor of American integrity and the values we upheld\n\nThat everyone has equal rights, not just if you're rich and white and male\n\nAnd you happen to accept the view that for some reason\n\nAllowing those different than us to marry will make our country fail\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nLet us scream fight for the freedom of religion\n\nBut only if it's a vote in favor of Christianity\n\nFor the thought that the first amendment was written to protect\n\nAll faiths and beliefs, including Muslims, is insanity\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nFor you see, how can we be so blind, Islam is what's been curb stomping\n\nEvery freedom and right and piece of integrity we once had\n\nNo way could it have anything to do with our current political system\n\nIt's the liberals! It's the conservatives! Be angry, get mad!\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nThis two party system is pathetic\n\nCan't you see how much they have in common?\n\nThey're both in favor of whatever fills their pocket the most\n\nLet them eat lobster and let us eat the noodles of Ramen\n\nI had hope in this election, four years of Obama was enough\n\nThere were so many people to choose from\n\nYet out of them all, only one man stood out as what I wanted\n\nHe stood for the truth, for consistency, didn't budge for a crumb\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nHe was ignored by our media, swept under the rug\n\nCalled a crazy person, just an old senile man\n\nHe calls for freedom, but clearly the time for liberty is over\n\nLook at all the cash we're making, doesn't he understand?\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAnd instead, this is the shit stain I'm forced to accept now\n\nThis is the country I was once proud to be a part of\n\nUnited we stand, divided we fall, what a powerful phrase\n\nSo simple, yet so profound and surreal, why aren't we listening\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI'm done rhyming, I'm done trying to make a point using satire\n\nWhat the hell are we doing as people, why are we cowards?\n\nWhy do we tell the man who's house is being foreclosed\n\nThe man who has applied for countless numbers of jobs\n\nThe woman who can't afford to feed her family even one meal a day\n\nThat they should just stop complaining and do something about it?\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nWhere has our unity gone? Why are we so separated now?\n\nWhy do we castrate ourselves from anyone who thinks differently\n\nThey're only a good American if they believe the same thing I do\n\nOtherwise, they're an embarrassment, right?\n\nI mean, America was only founded on the principles I stand for\n\nMy religion and how I see it should determine how this country is run\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nHow am I supposed to stand by my country anymore\n\nI'm not even proud of who I am\n\nI used to be happy that I lived in such a prosperous country\n\nNow I have to quietly say, \"I'm an american\"\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nBecause, god, seriously, what is there to be proud of any longer\n\nWe throw our money and liberties away while the rich get stronger\n\nWe yell at those people who have the audacity to wonder\n\nWhy the government has waged war with its own residents\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nWe demand that those who are unlike us are an ultimate danger\n\nThe threat against our nation clearly lies within the stranger\n\nThe hate and bigotry such an ultimate re-arranger\n\nFrom how we were when this all started\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nIn my opinion, it's either Ron Paul or bust\n\nThis country is not what I remember growing up in\n\nBut perhaps it was this bad back then too\n\nI was just too young and naïve to see it happen\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI remember getting a ride from my mother on my way back from school\n\nHaving to listen to her listen to Hannity and Limbaugh on the radio\n\nEven then wanting to pound my head against the seat cushion\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI'm not even sure where to end this tirade, I'm so disgusted with what I see\n\nBeing an American right now is not what I saw it be years before\n\nI'm not even sure what to believe anymore\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI used to think this nation was great, but now I'm looking at the pieces\n\nThe pieces of faith I had that this political system has ultimately shattered\n\nI'm not even sure if it's worth picking them back up again\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI want to fight for my rights, but I feel so exhausted\n\nI want to fight for my liberty, but I feel so disgusted\n\nI want to believe in my country, but I'm not blind anymore\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nIf this is what this country stands for now\n\nIf this bigoted system of unfairness and inequality is our future\n\nThen I choose to take no part in it\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nIf this is all that's left to call myself an American with\n\nThen consider me one without a homeland\n\nFor I will not associate myself with such blind hate\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nGive me Liberty or give me death\n\nA line once said by a man named Patrick Henry\n\nThis is the line I will stand by\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAnd to the government who thinks they have a right to take that from me\n\nUnderstand this-\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI raised my right hand and swore to bear allegiance to the constitution\n\nI swore to defend it, against enemies both foreign and domestic\n\nYou are not fooling me, you are not fooling a whole lot of us\n\nIf I am left to either accept your form of tyranny or leave\n\nJust remember, I signed to uphold my liberty\n\nThis is not the last you'll hear from me\n\nIf you choose to continue to strip me of my dignity\n\nI will fight back, I will do whatever is necessary\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nAmerica is my country, not yours\n\nThis land is mine, not the corporations\n\nMy rights are mine, but that doesn't give me the right to step on someone else's\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nI dare you, keep this shit up!\n\nKeep calling women sluts\n\nKeep calling homosexuals dogs\n\nKeep calling Muslims terrorists\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nJust remember, I signed a contract\n\nI raised my right hand and pledged my allegiance to America\n\nNo, I didn't pledge allegiance to your America\n\nI pledged it to my country\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nYou will not take this country from me\n\nPeaceful rebellion only lasts for so long\n\nI swore to defend the constitution of the United States of America\n\nAnd you're stepping all over it\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n\nThis is not the last you'll hear from me\n\n\u0026nbsp;\n ![/\u003e\u003c/div\u003e \u003cdiv style=](http://www.google.com/uds/css/small-logo.png)\n\u0026nbsp;\n ![/\u003e\u003c/div\u003e \u003cdiv style=](http://www.google.com/uds/css/small-logo.png)\n\u0026nbsp;\n ![/\u003e\u003c/div\u003e \u003cdiv style=](http://www.google.com/uds/css/small-logo.png)\n\u0026nbsp;\n ![/\u003e\u003c/div\u003e\u003c/div\u003e\u003c/body\u003e\u003c/html\u003e](http://www.google.com/uds/css/small-logo.png)\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poems","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/350526-politics.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/370515-the-unknown-future.json"}}
