Another creative writing assignment. This was a free-write.
This is existentialist idea about accepting that you cannot escape death; that death is inevitable. Enjoy.

_Coming to Terms_

The waves are crashing
Burning the soil
Liquid fire amongst the sands
Time floats among the clouds
And the eyes peer into space

Breath can be seen
Travelling upon the wind
Blood runs ice cold
Evaporating from the veins
And the eyes look to the stars

Hair falls away
Swimming in the ashes
The skin melts off bone
Leaving the soul to depart
And the eyes stare at the universe

Blackness deepens in the mind
The heart stops
Fingers curl into nothing
Grasping at the air
And the eyes see life leave

The remains are scattered
The funeral has been held
Black cloth for grief
Salted tears for remembering
And the eyes have long stopped seeing

And my eyes see the grave
Whittled away by time
Upon the head it reads
"You cannot escape death
Accept it."
