It's a creative writing assignment given after watching Def Poetry (Russell Simmons - host). We were told to write a poem that exemplified what we were passionate about. I wrote a poem about realizing who you are and accepting that fact. It's important to be proud of who you are and to never try to change that. I hope you enjoy.","content":"_You_\n\nSome people say I think too much  \nBut there are some people  \nWho don't think enough  \nYou stop and stare and look at me  \nLike I'm the crazy one  \nYou don't even know me  \nThe only one who is close  \nTo knowing me is me  \nHell you don't even know yourself  \nYou sit there and judge me  \nLike I'm some kind of freak  \nA nerd, geek, bookworm, think-er  \nYour stereotypical labels don't faze me\n\nBut let's stop for a minute and talk about you  \nLet's take a moment out of our day  \nAnd focus on who you think you are  \nOr rather, on what you want others  \nTo think you are  \nYou wanna be cool, smooth, and slick  \nYou wanna be hip, phat with a ph  \nAnd sick  \nYou wanna be an icon  \nOne everybody sees  \nYou wanna be the embodiment of everyone else  \nBut you don't wanna be yourself\n\nYou are too blind to see  \nWhat it is that makes you  \nSometimes you've got to get down on your knees  \nAnd plead to yourself  \n\"What am I doing?  \nWhat am I becoming?\"  \nYou gotta pick yourself up  \nAnd dust the dust off  \nPick up a piece of the broken mirror  \nAnd see yourself  \nFor who you really are  \nBecause you can't be somebody else  \nNo matter how hard you try  \nYou are you and I am me  \nNow what'll it take for you to see  \nThat that will never change?\n\nEvery part of who you are is what defines you  \nAnd you should value every piece  \nSometimes you gotta take a step back  \nAnd take in the whole picture  \nAll at once to realize  \nWhat you are really seeing  \nAnd it isn't easy to think  \nIt's hard to criticize yourself  \nTo love yourself with harsh love  \nAnd see yourself better because of it\n\nI don't stand here telling you this  \nI stand here making you realize that  \nYou can look in the mirror and only see you  \nAnd you gotta decide if you like what you see  \nSometimes I think too damn much  \nAnd sometimes I don't think enough.\n\n~bhscorch\n\n[![Creative Commons License](http://i.creativecommons.org/l/by-nd/3.0/88x31.png)](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/3.0/)  \n\"You\" by bhscorch is licensed under a [Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/3.0/)\n\n  \n  \n\n","series":{"name":"Poetry","previous":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/369162-poem-59-heal.json","next":"https://fse.anthro.fr/stories/370143-poem-61-dance-with-the-music.json"}}
