While I am by no means fat, rather the opposite, hours of hanging by your wrists will quickly make them sore. I gritted my teeth, thinking through the list of tricks that I knew, wondering if one of those would help. After a short time it became clear to me that they were useless in this situation. He called them 'pretty twinkling lights', and it was a good description. Closing my eyes, I concentrated, calling forth a fiery flower from my imagination; the one I had amazed my audience with so many times.

I cried out as a searing pain slashed through my stomach. Gritting my teeth, I let out a soft whimper, my red-furred tail slipping between my legs. He wasn't taking any chances it seemed. He had set up a dampening field, one with a punishment for infringement. At least that meant that there weren't any enchantments at work on me.

Within a few moments I wasn't so sure. I wouldn't be surprised if he had found a way to set the dampening field to my magic alone, leaving him free to tease me how he wished. Sighing, I let myself fall loose in the chains, staring at the stone floor beneath me.

How I yearned for sunlight. It felt like ages since I had felt its warmth on my cheeks, to have the wind rush through my red fur and the bushy tail. But here I was, trapped in this dungeon with barely enough light to see by. I chuckled softly to myself, how much had changed since the days where I would run free through the city streets, stopping from time to time to dazzle a small group of bystanders with my 'pretty twinkling lights'.

An ant skittered across one of the stones in the floor, disappearing into one of the cracks. I used to live like that, slipping from hideout to hideout, afraid to get caught by Them, the ones who held power over everything. I tried to hide from them, and, to a lesser extent, the gangs the held their own version of power over the city. For the entirety of my short existence, a mere sixteen years, I had gone my way, beneath their notice. Then I caught his eye. What had I done differently that day that had led to this? Staring at my footpaws, dangling a good foot off the ground, I thought. When was it?

Oh...

Now that I thought about it, I could remember that day so clearly. Whenever he was around, he made a point of telling me that that was the first day he saw me.

It had been a beautiful day...
